Fantastic news! Can I ask if when given the interview invitation if you were given a specific date range to choose from (18th - 24th) Or you were just allocated a specific date and time?

I was allocated a specific date and time, so I guess they send emails out in batches based on your allocated interview date (as my invitation was received exactly one week before the interview)

For DPhil, is it expected that your supervisor resides in your college?

Nope, your supervisor does not need to be in the same college.

But then I don’t really understand why St Antony is looking for a link between their college/people with the research you intend to do? https://www.sant.ox.ac.uk/prospective-students/graduate-courses

DPhil Molecular Cell Biology in Health and Disease, anyone have an interview? I haven't heard and they start tomorrow, but I haven't had a rejection like others have?

I didn't put in a preference for college. I now realise that it may have been the wrong call to do so :s-smilie:

Hey! I can’t reply to your pm as my account is new, just wanted to let you know I will get back soon

Interesting. The standard approach is that you put down a college that accepts your course and then hope that you get your first choice. Of course there are ways to increase the odds of getting your first choice. It seems St Antony's are saying that the more aligned you are with their research interests, the more likely it is that they will accept you. Which makes sense; colleges will want to bring in candidates that meet what they are looking for. However, it's not a necessary requirement that your supervisor is from the same college. Most people have supervisors at different colleges (from what I understand).

Depends on your department, mine (Medical Sciences Division) was good, most of their questions related to my 5 min presentation on my master’s project. So I’d say know your project’s strengths and weaknesses. Some additional questions related to any papers I’ve read outside my field that I found interesting + a question related to failure and what I’d learned.

Thanks! Did they tell you to prepare a presentation in advance? Was it a general introduction then master thesis/project? or only about your project?

Oh nooo don’t worry at all! They’re all assessed equally I think it may even be a good call to put no preference. What are you currently studying?

Hey! Don't mind me asking but I'm just curious as to why it may be a good call to put no preference? I didn't indicate any colleges in my application either and I'm starting to think that maybe I should have selected one that's closest to my needs. Thanks in advance!

“The interview will last approximately 20 minutes and you will be required to give a presentation (for a maximum of 5 minutes and using a maximum of 3 slides) covering (1) a research project that you have recently carried out as an undergraduate, or as part of a research job (2) your motivation for choosing this course.”

Hey! I think mainly because you have quite a low chance of getting the college you select anyway. It won’t have any impact on your acceptance. But now you mention it, applying to a specific college for your needs could be good, although I just applied to one I found pretty 😂
