Medicine clearing for someone who didn't apply the first time?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if it is possible to enter medicine clearing. I am in year 13 currently (just ended). I didn't apply for medicine this year, I applied for natural science. I however changed my mind and really want to do medicine. I could apply whilst at uni/take a gap year, however I was wondering about clearing.

I should get 4A* on results day and have 10 A*/9s at GCSE. I am aware that I need a UCAT score to enter clearing, and was wondering if I could do the UCAT 2021 ASAP maybe in late July? Would they be able to use this UCAT score for interview shortlisting, or would I need a score from last summer? I have done lots of practice and am getting high scores. Is it even possible to get into medicine this way (I doubt it but just trying my luck here!) I have done volunteering and work experience and read books relating to the course and have made up my mind. I don't mind what medical school I get into as I believe you can be any doctor regardless of what uni you studied at?

Thank you very much for any help!

I’m not sure about the UCAT bit but you could apply to unis that don’t take the UCAT or BMAT like UoBuckingham or UCLAN

Thanks! Will probably leave out Buckingham cause of the extortionate fees though!

Wait nevermind, Brunel for medicine is only for international students
Anyway good luck with your application whether you decide to apply in this cycle or the next.

UCAT is only valid for one cycle, so to apply for 2021 entry, you need to have sat the UCAT in 2020. If you sit it this year, it will be valid for 2022 entry or applicationthis year deferred to 2023 entry

Hi @Bionet

You can apply through clearing at UCLan - this is what it's there for, it allows you to change your mind and see what best fits for you. I'd recommend giving clearing a call on 01772 830777 to discuss your options further!

Hope this was helpful and good luck.

You do know that UCLan has an extremely limited number of places (around 15) for medicine for UK applicants that are only available to those who live in the North West of England? It is not open to everyone, and you have to meet the residency requirements to be able to apply
