Criminal law

I want to do criminal law in the future but I would rather do a degree before hand. I’m interested in English and economics before studying law but I still don’t know which one I should go for. I was also looking at economics with criminal justice - does anyone know any degrees similar to this/have any advice?

I can’t give you any law degree advice. My one piece of advice would be that if you complete a degree and then do a degree to become a criminal lawyer then you will have to pay full tuition fees and won’t get a maintainace loan which is a lot of money in total.

You may have already considered that so if so then sorry!

Another thing to consider is that (I’m pretty sure) you have to do extra exams after completing your course and get a training contract and work your training contract before you can even officially be a lawyer.

I know a girl who basically took 3 years worth of gap years and is really struggling to get a training contract because a lot of companies want younger employees.

I’m not saying don’t do it. I’m just giving you some things to consider!

But then again I don’t know anything about law so feel free to ignore me!

Yes, you can do postgrad Law to qualify after a degree in another subject - example of good course is http://www.bristol.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/2021/ssl/ma-law/ - but be aware of how qualification pathways are changing with the introduction of SQE etc.
