I havent had an interview there :frown: but I know someone who had an interview there last year.

She said that at bristol, they were quite harsh, with hard questions e.g

What injections does a puppy/kitten need? and other questions like that!! :eek: she was just like i was kinda hoping id learn that here!!

they also asked her why she hadnt certain experience in certain areas of the animal world e.g. zoos/wildlife!

Apparently the interview was hard, but she got an offer anyway! She just said to learn all recent science-vet news, they are interested in ur knowledge on the subject!

Anyway, good luck!!

My Bristol interview was really hard as it was quite clinical and i found the interviewing panel not very friendly. They asked me about TB spread and badgers and also about orf in sheep. I found the best policy was to admit that i ddint know the answer and ask them to explain - i still got an offer!
Liverpool interview was totally different as there was a really friendly atmosphere and everone was really helpful and nice. Some of the questions were very strange though - including why was every doberman called bob (something to do with genetics!) and what were my views on horseriding!
Dont worry about your interviews - as long as you are confident (but not OTT) and look the interviewer in the eye you will be fine. Just remember not to make up answers as they will spot you a mile off!

I'd say that just about sums it up for me aswell. Those bristol folks were a bit ruthless. I found Glasgow the friendliest but thats probably cos the guys liked rugby and so do i so we chatted about that for half the interview.

I had my Liverpool interview on Tuesday...

I got asked why I wanted to go to Liverpool;

did I think that it was justified for tax payers money to be used for me to learn how to treat pets;

how would I feel if there was a situation where a competition horse had an injury which would stop him competing, and the owners wanted him put to sleep even though he was otherwise completely fine;

had I considered working in industry or an abbatoir or a lab;

did I think I could cope with the academic workload;

why did I want to be a vet.

I was expecting to be asked about my work experience, and also current vet issues, and diseases etc, but I didn't get any questions like that, although other people said they did.

I had a look around after my interview and saw the equine unit, which was huge.

I was told I would hear by the end of March if I've got an offer or not.

Good luck to everyone who has interviews coming up!

By the way has anyone got any advice about Edinburgh interviews - what type of questions do they ask, and are they friendly or formal?

Edinburgh interviews are quite friendly but notoriously difficult. You will be interviewed by 2 if not 3 people one of whom is always colin stead (undergraduates admissions officer). In my interview last year (as far as i can remember!) i was asked quite a bit about work experience and particulary about sheep!Edinburgh was the first interview where they actually sat and wrote stuff about me as a i talked which was quite offputting as it was very difficult not to be tempted to ry and read what they were writing upside down!After the interview you will be given a tour of Summerhall by curent 1st/2nd years (although nobody seems to be volunteering at the mo as we all have exams etc!!) and then you will go out to bush with colin stead to look round the large animal hospital and farm.
Heeellloooooo lady!
Firstly good luck with your interview! :smile:
Now, back to business...........
My vet interview at Bristol was interesting, for a start it was A LOT easier than my interview at Fitzwilliam, Cambridge, which felt like a constant uphill struggle, although maybe that was because it was my 1st interview!
The peeps who interviewed me were vvvvv friendly (1 research scientist and a vet med student, i think) and the interview was mainly based around my work exp (hooray!). I was also asked about B.S.E (30 month rule, prion theory, etc), how lambs obtained immunity from their mothers and how that differed from humans, the different jobs vets can do, why I wanted to go to Bristol, why I wanted to be a vet annnnndddd, ermmmmm oh yeah how you'd slaughter a bull (as have had the pleasure of visting am abbatoir :eek: ).

Soooooo what can I say, by the sounds of it, its just pot luck- you may get nice peeps, then again you might not!

Btw have many english peeps got interviews/ places for glasgow, as the merry folk up north seem to have a nasty habit of being unbelievably biased towards there own scottish folk (fair enough, but I mean come on!)

Soz! have a bit of a hatred towards them at the mo, as have been rejected straight off from glasgow and edinburgh despite exceeding there grade requirements- wahoooo! soz am still a bit bitter!

ooooooo to anyone who did the AQA, Spec B biology environment module on last wednesday, didnt you find it INCREDIBLY hard- :confused: :secruity: resit city in june, here i come! :creep:

Another Vet :biggrin: Welcome!

I had an interview at Glasgow on Wednesday - was very much like RVC style - relaxed and friendly. I really hope I get an offer from them and then RVC can be a good insurance. :wink:

Have you heard back from any of your other choices?

Thank you so much for the advice! You are a star!

Have been looking up sheep diseases and going over my lambing experience notes... I hope they ask me something about diseases, because my last 2 interviews didn't ask about work experience or current issues or clinical stuff at all - just about motivation and ethical issues and also if I had enough money (I'm a graduate applicant).

Anyway thanks again... it has helped to focus me now that I am getting nervous about my interview!

I'VE GOT AN OFFER FROM BRISTOL- 3 A's WWWWWAAAAAHHHHOOOOOO!!!!!! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAAY!!!!!!!
Sorry! It was just such a relief after being rejected from all my other 3 choices- was getting desperate, but accepting that a gap year wouldn't be that bad!
I dont think ive ever felt so down before i got my bristol offer- its a good motivator, as think i would've struggled to be as determined to get the grades without an offer.
btw Well done to ANYONE whose got an offer/ offers! :biggrin:

Ooh and thankyou for welcoming me!!!

Btw any other bristol vets out there?
