How long does clearing take on results day?

So I leave for Italy around august, maybe august 13th-14th. I get my A level results on 10th August. I was predicted BC in economics & Business however I got A* in all my business exams & A’s in my economics exams during the “new exam period”. Since I want to apply with these higher grades I decided to wait for results day & apply through clearing. My family plans on leaving for Italy a day or two later. So how long would the clearing process take, would it be on the day? I’ve done my student finance & chose the uni I plan on applying to on clearing August 10th.

Have you submitted a UCAS application yet? Submitting a UCAS application and getting a reference will often take the most time and is something you should do before results day in order to use clearing

Yeah I submitted an application to 5 unis got 3 offers back but declined all as I decided I could do better. So waiting for results day to come round & then apply through clearing.

Hey @Anonware once we can verify your grades we can make you an offer through Clearing fairly quickly  On results day contact the unis you're interested in studying with, they'll check you meet the criteria they're looking for and be able to make you an offer if you do. If you intend to take up the offer, you'll submit the uni course as your Clearing choice on Track and the admissions team will process this. During the busiest Clearing period we often upload decisions to UCAS quite quickly, so as long as everything is pretty straight forward on your application it can be sorted within 24 hours I'd say. Some things may hold up the process, for example if they have to double check anything on your application with course selectors or anything like that.

It's maybe worth getting organised with this now- look at the unis you're applying for and write a note of their numbers/email addresses so you can enquire in an organised way on results day. On the 10th August, have your UCAS ID and qualifications to hand.

Hope that helps!

You could even write the mail's now just leaving a space for the grades and leave them in a draft file. On results day you fill in the grades and hit the send button. That way you're one of the first in line.
You cannot 'enter Clearing' until you have your results, however you can phone/email Unis now to see if they might be interested in you for the course you want. Many Uni will allow you to 'register' for Clearing now. This will save you a great deal of time on Results Day when speed is important and you need to get on the phone quickly.

Top Unis (ie. asking A grades) tend to wrap things up on Results Day or by the day after. There are no guarantees but you should be able to sort this out within 48 hours of Results being announced. There will be other things you need to do - Student Fianace, accommodation etc, but as long as you have an internet connection in Italy that all stlll do-able.

Wow, thanks Caitlin! I will follow the advice of being prepared on results day, especially since that’s what everyone else is saying. Very informative, thanks!

Have you thought about planning ahead and visiting a few universities so that you are in a position to make a list beforehand. You might not be able to visit departments but you certainly should be able to just walk aroud.
