GYG YR 13 - Something whitty

Hello to the few people who might see this.

My name is Beth, and I have just finished yr12, and I want to start one of these to try to stop my brain rotting over summer.

At first it will be a bit dry, but hopefully get better as work speeds up

A bit about me

I debate a lot at school competitions, way too competitive, and quite friendly (I like to think). I am doing this to try to make my burst of motivation last longer than it usually does, before the sleeping in until 11 begins. This is my first one, and I am relatively new to TSR.
I enjoy reading most things, but it's a bit tricky to manage in the school year.

Sooooo that's all that springs to mind for now:^_^::^_^:
Hope everyone has a good summer!

Hi, do you have any tips for maths? What's your revision strategy if you don't mind me asking? I'm looking to increase my predicted grade for maths and need all tips possible from students like you, thanks.

What do you do to make sure you understand the concept? I feel like the exercise in books don't help as there are very different compared to the questions in exams.

SO at GCSE everything in Maths was ridiculously easy, and could just in a lesson and that was it. At A level obviously that is a recipe for disaster.
I would say I am in a transition period in to properly studying out of class in maths, so my advice might not be the best.

Firstly, do the textbook questions. I do get that they can be really boring, and feel very irrelevant, but they do drill into you key methods and ideas, which really does help, especially if you don't quite understand the concept. In that case, just practice until it is like a reflex. What is your exam board? - If you use the edexcel text book do at minimum all the mixed exercises.

So that is the first issue, ie knowing the methods and common ways they are introduced. Personally I think being able to do this can get you an A/B depending how tricky your exam board is for wording.

Other common problem is reading a question and having know idea what to do. Textbook practice helps this too, but of course the best way is practice papers, and becoming familiar with question framings, and even more so being able to think on your feet. From my knowledge Edexcel a lvl papers can be tricky for this reason. This just comes over time, just practice any past paper you can find, and try and work out exactly why the=at question needed that method etc.

Last potential issue for people is conceptual understanding. Ultimately, if you try for ages and a certain topic doesn't click just learn the methods and move on. I also would recommend going to as many different teachers/students as possible and getting them to explain it in their own way (Youtube/khan academy also good).

Anyway that was longer than I was expecting.

(Also take History for which i copy out endless mindmaps from memory and do essay plans, and economics for which the AS is so easy so didn't do much at all)
To do this week 11/7/21:

1) 3 A level pure mixed exercises, one core pure one.
2) Revise Henry VII consolidation of power, and economy.
3) NEA history -- try and read 3 chapters of this very boring textbook.
4) Revise early challenges to the Weimar Republic

And last but not least - write more personal statement. I have had one draft finished and ripped apart by a teacher, and am trying to write the second.

...and into the void my to do list goes
Sooo it is soon to update but I am really struggling for motivation to here goes

Maths
Going well. Feels very productive to do so have done an exercise each day. I'm still on the easy ones which is nice

History
BLEHHHHHHH. Did one tudors topic and am fed up. NEA is also so boring atm, just endless notes to read through before i decide on my question. (At my school we all have to do it on the crusades)

Uni
Haven't opened personal statement, it will just be depressing when I do:yucky:
On the plus side I am reading a book I found and bought from Blackwells, which is good and written interestingly. Prob because it is translated from German.
Also-- considering doing a degree with French in?? Year abroad sounds so fun but £££. Alternative might be applying to SciencePo? Its a french social science uni with courses in english.

Other
Made lemon and poppyseed cupcakes. Would recommend:tongue:

So, off to make myself do history, and get bored.
