Creative Music Technology at UWE

I have some offers, including one from UWE. My other choices are Leeds Conservatoire and York.
I’d really like to find a student at UWE who can answer some of my questions, based on their experience.
The first thing I’m worried about is lack of a general Music degree at UWE and lack of practice with musicians as a result. Is it a major drawback? Does a Placement Year compensate this?
Is CMT at UWE more like a composition-oriented course rather than the one focused solely on music technology in a common sense (working in studios, recording music, etc.)?
Finally, which uni would you advise me to choose (UWE, Leeds Conservatoire, York) based on your understanding of prestige among those unis in music production?

I'm not there yet but I'm going to do CMT at UWE. From what I gather from the course summary and the offer holders' talks (I also went and toured the facilities last week) it's part composition and part tech. The AMT course and CMT are pretty much the same in the first year so you can get a taste of the composition/theory side and the tech side, and you can actually switch courses at that point if you end up preferring one over the other. They have a pretty cool Centre for Music which offers music lessons, practice rooms you can book which are fully stocked, I'm fairly sure there's bands and orchestral stuff that you can join as well. I previously did music performance at college so a more production/composition based course is exactly what I was looking for, but still having an avenue to perform. I don't know about you but this is pretty much the perfect course for what I want to be doing.
Hi! I'm starting my second year at CMT. Both courses are good and yes CMT has this composition elemetn to it. It's a great technical course on which you will learn recording, editing and using software for production (Pro Tools and Logic), programming for audio and other cool techy stuff. However, I wouldn't take it if your main focus is being an aritst. This is a very technical course and you will be a qualified tech person rather than a rock star. Although, there are many musians on those courses and some are very skilled and talented so plenty of space for making connections. PSBe prepared for a lot of hardcore learning, this course can be demanding sometimes

Update for anyone who comes onto the site looking for this - I'm dropping out because it's hardly music-based at all and I am not enjoying the course. If you enjoy coding, Pro Tools and sitting at a computer 4 days a week then go for it, but I'm transferring to BIMM lol

Hey thanks for the update! How are you liking BIMM? I'm trying to narrow down my choices and the mixed reviews on BIMM scared me away even though initially I was really excited to hear about it.
