How do you distinguish between the three of them? Is natural event just a physical phenomenon caused by nature forces, without necessarily endangering anyone or destrying anything, whereas natural disaster is a natural even that causes widespread destruction/death. Natural hazards-- dunno

You are quite right as far as you go ie that a natural event is something that happens with no causation by anything other than natural forces. An event only becomes a hazard when it endangers human life or activities. (it may not necessarily be a disaster). A natural disaster is a huge natural event which takes place and has widespread human (as well as physical) repercussions. There are also quasi-natural events (eg huge reservoirs that are thought to put undue pressure on fault lines - Narmada dam?)
Thus Natural Disaster> natural hazard> natural event from a human perspective.

Thanks. Are people creating hazards just by living close to e.g.Volcanoes? It would have been a natural event if they didn't choose to live there.

I suppose you could say that they are increasing the potential rating of an event, just by choosing to settle there. Their perception of the likelihood of an eruption is countered by the very real economic advantages. The relative infrequency of massive events tends to reduce people's perception - despite education and massive publicity people still deliberately choose to locate in San Francisco, let alone some of the less well known locations for plate margins.
