3 people, all with glowing praise for this university and all with new accounts with exactly one post - this one.

@BlinkyBill

Maybe it's evidence that this course is not as bad as you describe. It's good to offer a diverse range of thoughts, and I think students may benefit from getting opinions that come from those with actual experience on the course. It would not be fair to get a one sided view especially when the students actually doing Law at Goldsmiths feel its not an accurate reflection of their experience.

Hi Reality Check,

Came across this post while scrolling (as a guest), mentioned it to a few of my classmates and I think we just wanted to set the record straight (which we obviously couldn't do without creating accounts). There seems to be a fair bit of misinformation surrounding law at Goldsmiths from people who couldn't possibly know. It's a brand new course and I am in the first cohort...ever. As I am also a third year, this means that there are no rankings at all for law here yet you seem pretty assured in saying that "It's pretty crap, to be honest. You could do a lot better."

Just wondering where you got your information given that there currently is none?

No malice intended with this response, I just know how valuable this forum was for me when looking at universities, and I wanted to make sure that mine was given a fair representation so students can make an informed choice

Would a uni really stoop low enough to hire trolls to promote them? Anyways with law isn't it better to go to the best university you can? Not to mention the dodgy area that is New Cross.

Shouldn't you be more worried if it's a new course since you don't know how employers are going to treat it?

Definitely, I had my reservations as well when I applied because of the uncertainty of it being a new course! Employers have been receptive so far, so currently it's a bet that's paying off for me. I'm not telling anyone that this is definitely the university for them, I just wanted to say that it has been a fantastic decision for me personally, and that I don't think people should discount it as a viable university option based on the opinion of what someone on the internet thinks it may be like.

I agree with this 100%! I'm also a third year and I have no regrets.

This all smells like lies. Like Reality check has said, it’s weird that 3 new accounts have been made…

Hi there!I am currently taking the LLB course at Goldsmiths. The area that the university is located in is not the safest, but nothing has ever happened to me. However, I personally have never felt unsafe. The campus is located right next to the tube station either way so it is an easy commute. I personally love the course that I am taking and the lecturers are amazing at explaining all the information.I feel that the way Goldsmiths teaches the law course is quite unique.

Hi! I’m literally on the second year of this course. Goldsmiths is a great uni and the Law department go above and beyond to support students. I have not heard anyone from my course say that they haven’t received feedback on their work. The Law department also helps us with networking and provides us with multiple opportunities to enrich our CV.As for crime rate, its a London university. London is a big city and as such the crime rate is obviously going to be higher than a place like Northampton.

Same here... I think Goldsmiths is a great university. The law department is great and it ensures that all students are supported in some way.

What is this thread full of new accounts trying to convince us that Goldsmiths is a good uni?

Because sadly there isn’t the option to respond without an account.

If giving our opinions and thoughts on our experience at goldsmiths so prospective students can have their questions answered more accurately means creating an account, we’re all more than happy to do that and that’s evidence that the department must be doing something right.

How did you stumble upon this site and thread and how do I know that it’s not the same person with multiple accounts? Either way if OP has the grades to apply to unis like Manchester or Bath then there’s no point going to goldsmiths.

Goldsmiths law is a joke! Mostly foreign academics, most not even lawyers, who know nothing about UK law. Poor teaching quality. The law dept only cares about trips and PR events. The law dept is very low in the overall law rankings for 2024 (96 out of 109!), so it is a worthless degree. The uni as a whole is in financial chaos - no student support whatsoever, extreme delays and clerical errors, and constant faculty and staff strikes.

It's pretty crap, to be honest. You could do a lot better.

half of its faculty left this summer - shows you how bad it is. also, they happened to be all the favourite instructors there...

I've just done a PGCE at Goldmsiths and I have to say it's really crap. The teaching lacks academic rigour, you'll find yourself trapped in pointless seminars where people just wanna moan about social issues repeatedly and wonder why you paid thousands for that when you could just find that on tiktok, they constantly have marking boycotts so your hard work doesn't even get marked on time, sometimes a year later!
