I'm currently learning python and hmtl. Are there any others that will be particularly useful e.g C+ or java? Which should I focus on the most?

What kind of programming do you have in mind? Just mathematical calculations or something more? C++ is very powerful and will be able to fulfil all your requirements but it’s more complicated than Python I suppose.

Python is a good match for physicists right now, much easier to crunch a few numbers and get it to plot a nice graph with error bars and a polynomial fit line, my uni uses it all the time in lab right from day 1. Not the fastest for serious numerical work, but that's stuff for 3rd year projects.
