I just realized that I have the powers and permission to move the posts to this thread. So don't worry, they are at the right place now!

Thank you!! Don't get me wrong, I think it's a really important discussion to be having but I wouldn't want people to misunderstand and think the whole of the equestrian sport is abusive or treats their horses badly. The way the pentathlon jumping played out really goes to show how amazing the relationship with good riders and their horses are, so I wouldn't want the thread to be unrepresentative of the sport
~ Jumping team final is complete ~

It's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for the jumping event across this Olympics with surprise results left right and centre. Today's team final was no exception, and produced a slightly unexpected podium given the previous two days of the competition! Great Britain decided to withdraw after the first two riders had unlucky faults in their rounds, taking the team out of medal contention. The rest of the team decided it was in the horses' best interests to withdraw from the competition and not push for exceptional rounds when the competition was essentially already over for them. Sweden and the US went down to the wire with a jump-off needed to break their tie, Sweden coming away victorious with overall faster rounds. Here are the top 5:

1. Sweden - 8 penalties
2. USA - 8 penalties
3. Belgium - 12 penalties
4. The Netherlands - 17 penalties
5. Switzerland - 28 penalties

~ The equestrian event has come to a close! ~

I can't quite believe how quickly the past 2 weeks have gone by but it's been so much fun making this thread and watching all the brilliant sport this Olympics has had to offer. Hopefully all those who managed to watch some of the equestrian events have enjoyed it and come away wanting to see more, or even wanting to have a go yourself!

If you would like to follow equestrian sports outside of the Olympics, you can see all the upcoming FEI-affiliated events here. The FEI tends to run a lot of the high-level competitions so you're guaranteed a good watch  The next event on my list to watch will be the Blenheim Palace Horse Trials which is an iconic competition on the British eventing calendar, and is always full of incredible talent from across the globe

If you fancy having a go at riding yourself, why not find a local riding school? The BHS and ABRS are the two most trusted horse and riding associations in the UK, and you can find your local accredited riding school here: BHS / ABRS

What I would like still to mention as afterword for the equestrian sport is Deußer's decision to give the show jumping up after he realized that his horse Killer Queen refused to jump over an obstacle. That is the right attitude to this sport! the horse's welfare comes first, winning a medal or not. Annika Schleu ruined the good reputation of this sport and Deußer gave it back. That is more worth than a medal. Well done!
