Job Market

Hello everyone,

What is the job market for international students in UK (considering Covid-19)?
I will prolly apply for masters next year and i want to know if their is a good chance for me to to find a decent job after graduation. I am an inexperienced professional and a recent graduate.
What universities would you recommend to apply in, which has a better job prospects. I have a finance background.

TIA!

The Job market for this years graduates is extremely competitive and difficult. Some companies have paused graduate programmes (so not given places for their usual grad schemes this year) or cut back on how many graduates they hire for each programme ( eg usually have 100 positions but now only 30) so it’s been really tough. I applied for business management / operations/ supply chain graduate programmes and I would say that a lot of them prefer you to have a masters (again depends what role you’re going for but usually business, economics, STEM or computer science subjects) and a masters will give you a better chance of getting to interview stages. What I will say is that yeah it’s great to have a degree but more prestigious graduate employers (eg Big 4) want more than a degree, they want you to have employment history and situations where you can demonstrate you’ve worked in a team environment, fast paced workplace, had conflict with a colleague. So any chance you get to work on projects and uni and part time job/ internship whilst at uni will again give you a better chance. As an international student I would say aim for larger/ international companies because they’re more likely to be able to support your visa and have procedures in place for international students. In terms of universities all I can suggest is simply picking a masters discipline and seeing which university is best for that degree subject and where gives you wider opportunities to take part in things like consulting. I hope this info helps and answers your questions if not just ignore it 🤣 Good Luck!
