The displacement from O of a particle moving along a straight line is given by

x=t^2−4t

where x is measured in metres.

Find the distance that the particle has traveled after 4 seconds.

the displacement after 4s is 0m but not the total distance. As the graph is a perfect parabola, find the distance travelled at the halfway point (2s) to find that as 4m and then double that for the total distance: 8m.

Thanks, you are right but I'm sorry, I still don't understand how to get the answer. Say the value of time was another number, I still don't understand how to solve for distance. I'm missing something and I don't know what it is.
