Hi,

I’ve made a few posts about clearing (sorry) but I was just wondering if you have an offer, but want to go through clearing for a different uni, can you speak to unis for possible offers before actually declining the offer to see if they have a space/vacancy suitable? Or will I have to decline & get a clearing number?

Thank you )

Technically they’re not meant to speak to you without you officially being in Clearing, but you may find they’ll let you know if they have places available before you decline your firm/insurance.

You can try but most universities will want your clearing number. Those that don’t might not be able to make an offer until you get yourself placed into clearing.

You can waste a lot of valuable time trying to have your cake and eat it.

Clearing exists to match UNPLACED applicants with courses with vacancies. If you want to use clearing then you need to BE in clearing. If you hang on to your firm choice then that stops another clearing applicant from getting an offer or place there.

They usually wont commit to a definite offer - but they will usually talk to you about if there are places and entry requirements for that course.

If you then decide you want that as a Clearing place you will need to decline your existing place on Track and call them back to go through the Clearing process.
