Vacation schemes with American firms

I haven't put this under the huge 'VS/TC' thread as I think my question would probably get buried under the hundreds of other comments, and I have a specific question.

I'm applying for vacation schemes with the American firms this Autumn, and it's my first time doing so. I'm concerned that my lack of previous vacation schemes in other firms will go against me; all I have on my CV is my education (undergraduate, masters, year working in hospitality, year out for a medical issue, GDL, Covid.....and then now).

However, I really do have an interest in the American firms and their culture (and yes, I've heard of the working hours....). If I can get this across, would I still stand a chance at the paper sift, to those who've had experience in applying to American firms?
None of this is a red flag. Just apply.
