I applied at ASDA for a job and received a phone call to come with my passport so that they could have a copy and send it to a company to check that I have the right to work in the UK.Then they told me that I would have a telephone screening,What does that mean?
and why am I being asked to provide my passport?

To prove you have the right to work in the uk…as they said.
Telephone screening will be the first stage of the interview process.

GabiAbi84 is that necessary before an interview because I haven't had an interview yet and they have just requested for it?

Yes. If you don’t have the right to work in the uk then there’s no point in them doing an interview.
