What subject are you talking about? You are guaranteed one if you're invited to an open day (and attend it) for maths.

Mathematics
Do they not test your knowledge at all?
Thanks, this has motivated me to go for mathematics, since they don't have brain wearing questions about your passion.
Or do they grill you with challenging things during the open day?
Dunno what course you're going for but I applied there (successfully) for European Social and Political Studies. That was a pretty competitive course - they get about 400 applications and pick about 100 for interviews and then choose I can't remember how many from that 100 to get an offer. So no, I don't think you'll get a place just by virtue of turning up (unless you're applying for something like Dutch, haha). But I actually enjoyed my UCL interview. It was partly in English and partly in German and the interviewer was very lovely, really put me at ease, and it wasn't scary at all. He was a fellow Yorkshire soul and told me he wasn't meant to say this, but was going to recommend I got an offer on the day. I wish I'd accepted my UCL offer (I went to LSE instead and absolutely fooking hated it). Viel Glueck!

There's no formal assessment, no. You'll see a few maths problems sitting on the tables but you can chat to other applicants instead if you want. There will be a sample lecture, which'll be difficult to follow if you don't know anything :shifty:, but you won't be required to answer any questions - you just have to watch.

doesn't this mean they give out a ridulous amount of offers, since it's such a competitive uni?

When is this open day? And what time should you get these letters?

No because not everyone gets invited to an open day...

Some get invited to an interview and others outright rejected.

How do they determine whom gets interviews or open afternoon?
sorry, I'm asking loads of questions

I'm seriously considering UCL as one of my choice, I don't want to waste an option

I got an informal interview for Archaeology but I assume that isn't as good as an offer. They say on their letter/email that they interview everyone that are 'actively considered for a place' but that doesn't guarantee an offer right? Anyone here gone through the process (for Archaeology would be even better) and can inform me.
Cheers
I've had my Archaeology interview (had it last week) and my letter said exactly the same thing.
For Arch and Anth (virtually everyone else at the open day was trying out for this) they were told they were being considered but they told me at the end of my interview that they would make me an offer and tbh the interview was a bit of a formality. However I think that for straight archaeology this may not be the case (Classical Archaeologist here )

Thanks, obviously a good impression should still be made. What did they ask you, stuff that you wrote on the supplement questionnaire. Lastly, had you done any archaeological digs or not? Thanks
1) They had quite clearly not read my supplementary questionnaire and some of the undergrads taking us round said they hadn't even handed them back in (!)
2) They sort of quoted my personal statement and asked me to explain what I meant and that kind of thing; seriously know and agree with what is in your personal statement.
3) I had been on a dig but for only a week.
4) Good luck!
