Woah...I was told around 6-8 hours a week for each subject. I think 20 hours is a bit excessive.

Reply 2

Yeah, 6-8 hours of work outside class should be sufficient per topic in A level.

60 hours a week on top of college? Unless you're a chronic insomniac with little or no social/work life that's pretty impossible. I'm doing A-levels at home twice as fast as normal and I'm not even studying 40 hours a week.

You wouldn't have time to sleep or stop if you did that much. We're told to put in a minimum of 5 hours for each subject =20. I wonder if the figure your teachers gave you is for all subjects.

Teachers says we should be doing at least 20 hrs a week for Physics to get an A.
Biology- 20hrs
Chemistry-20hrs:eek:

I'm sure they meant 20 hours overall, including each subject..

Reply 6

They always plug the 15 hours a week outside of class rule. But I rarely do more than 1.

Reply 7

WTF? I'm an IB student, and we have work weeks of approx. 50-60 hours

Reply 8

i'd say about 6 hours per week per subject should be fine. Not even the geekiest of Geeks would manage to get 20 hous per subject done. Besides, there come's a point where after doing a certain number of hours in each subject you wouldn't really learn very much more.

Reply 9

I think its more like 8-10 hours per week on each subject. So kinda, like a full time job really.

Reply 10

So about an hour on each subject every night? Unless you do half an hour on each subject Monday-Friday then do longer on the weekend.

Has anyone started seriously revising/working outside of lessons now?

An hour for each subject every night is what I got told.
But, no, I haven't seriously started revising yet.
I'm hoping to start during half term, but procrastination normally leads to me going astray...

Reply 12

We were told about 4 hours per subject per week, but in reality i didn't do that much and it all went fine!
Seriously as long as you know your strengths and weaknesses then you'll be able to revise what you need to and get an A.
Im sure teachers only say that so you at least do some work instead of none!:yep:

Reply 13

Oh my gawwwd, an hour a subject a night? WHAT. That would mean i'd get home from college at half four, and do non-stop work till half 9.
And even 6-8 hours a subject A WEEK is excessive. that's almost non stop work every single day. :s-smilie:

We were told that its fine to do 4 hours per week per subject and I do significantly less.

Reply 14

I'm currently doing 55 hours a week outside College.

Reply 15

whoaaaaaaaaa thats a lot of hours poeple are saying.
i must do about 2 hours out of school per subject.
i rarely do more.
except at exam time obviously

Reply 16

Recommended time is the same number of hours you do in class outside of class. EG. If you have 4 hours of Biology a week, you should do 4 extra hours outside of class. You really don't have to do excessive amounts of work per subject at this stage - leave it til mid-November, at least!

Reply 17

You're supposed to do what you do in class, outside. So I should be doing 4.5 hours a week per subject, which I say is okay. AS year, I did about 5 hours a week per subject in the week before the exams and did well. Repeat performance A2 year, well...not so well. So this year, I'm doing as much work as I can do. It's about 3 hours extra a day, not including weekends.

Jees. You only need about 4 hours a week for ervything to get an A. You do know what school does - add to time for work. You are already doing eight hours a day. You could easily get away with none and get a B.

Everyone on TSR has a strangely strong work ethic.

Whatever you feel comfortable with i don't think i've ever done more than 2 hours a day in my life.
