Its only another year, you could save loads of money to ease the burden of money after u graduate! It's a worthy investment  Never heard of any university accepting anyone who is 76 o_O

There's no upper age limit

Just if you're over 65 or something you don't qualify for student finance anymore, so the limit is how much money you have

There is a bloke in his 80s in the second year of a classics degree here I believe. Apparently he's a great laugh.

Now that's a man I'm curious to meet.
Anyone here do classics? I'm considering it as one of my 3 subjects!
Well, possibly i was exaggerating on the age a TINY bit, but i'd be like...22/23 :|.

I'd definitely do it. If I end up at St Andrews. But I probably won't ^^;

Haha I want to. But they haven't replied to my e-mail yet, so if the offer stays the same, it'll be too high, and I'll have to reject it x.x

Hey Zenobia I just found a table where all the international qualifications are compared to A levels, its from Bristol university but it should be the same for St Andrews. Have a look at it:smile:

Why do u have to reject it coz its to high? Why not accept it, put it as your firm, work ur ass off if u miss by a bit still ring them up they might still let u in and ofcourse if u meet them then your in. You got nothing to lose tbh.

I also have an offer from Bristol. It asks for a 7 average and a 5 on my IB. St Andrews asks for an 8 average an a 9 for History/Ancient History.

None of the UK universities have a clue what they're talking about.
You can not compare the Dutch system to A-levels for so many reasons. The main one being I do triple the amount of subjects.

Edit: I took a closer look at that table. It compares A-levels to VWO 3 subjects o__O (I'm in VWO 6). Which is even more stupid, because in VWO 3 you have... what's the Latin term... sextuple the amount of subjects as A-levels. Or does the GCE mean something different?
Also that table only takes 'most relevant subjects' in to account, which I WISH they would, because I indeed have 10, 9, 9 (meaning far above AAA in their odd minds) in my most relevant subjects. Cambridge does that, I believe. But noooot St Andrews, Bristol and Durham.

My Durham offer is also an 8 average, and I prefer that as my firm, since it has a better Archaeology department, it's 3 years, and it's closer by.
So I want St Andrews as my insurance (since I will also miss my Durham offer), but it's pretty stupid to choose an insurance with a higher offer lol, especially if you'll miss both offers.
Finally got my offer pack today, 3 weeks after I got my offer!

Same. Whoo!
Having received an offer for Sustainable Developement due to commence in September 2009, I am awfully excited and thrilled... hmmm. I ahve also sent of my accomodation application form and made implications that I would prefer St Salvator's and University Hall. What is the generally scope of feeling towards your offers. One of the admissiosn tutors contacted me and congratulated me as she said that this year was extremely tough and had a high calibre of student.. So yay...

I have firmed St Andrews and Insuranced Edinburgh

Okay well I oficially have to reject St Andrews today.
They even went as far as saying my impossible offer isn't equal to AAA but AAB. While it's higher than a normal Oxbridge offer to Dutch applicants!

Gah it hurts but I have no hoice. I wish I could do something about it though. It's no use for Dutch students to apply to St Andrews like this...

Edit: is there any way someone could write a message in the FAQ here or on the Wiki page or something? I feel really bad knowing this could all happen again to a fresh load of Dutch applicants next year. St Andrews comes to the University Fair in the Netherlands so if Dutch people apply anywhere in the UK it's often there. Just a small warning that they could give out a very high offer (average 8 + 9 in subject you are applying for) which might not be possible to meet.

In my case the 9 was in Ancient History, which was manageable (but the average 8 isn't)... but a 9 in Physics or Greek just doesn't happen in this country. I just feel I should do or say something.
