So who's deferring to 2010? I realise I could read through the 126 pages of posts, but that would take some time, so I'm asking instead =)

Just wondering, cause I've just deferred my place another year, so instead of starting 2009 I'm starting 2010. I'm going to be studying History and Maths...although I'm considering maybe jumping direct to second year. So you never know I may bump into some of you 2009ers!

Yeah I deferred my entry  See you up there in 2010

I was at one of the open days for St. Andrew's today, it was awesome!
I soooo can't decide where to go, I thought today would've helped but I'm stuck as ever :s-smilie: :p:

I went the day before and have the exact same feeling  actually visiting is supposed to make it easier to decide

AAARGH I am so bloody pissed off right now.

So last week someone from admissions at St Andrews e-mails me basically saying 'shut up and go away we're never going to lower your conditions'. So I had to decline my offer.

NOW someone from the Classics department e-mails me saying 'yeah sure we'll look at it after you get your results'. NOW, after I was made to decline them!

You can still change your firm and insurance choice within two weeks after making the decision.
You should phone UCAS and they will arrange it for you.

That must be sooo annoying...But 'we'll look at it after you get your results' isn't much of a promise
Something more solid than that would surely be far better, they could still say 'actually, no the conditions still stand' and you be a bit messed up by it.

Durham isn't too bad a choice instead you know  I'd just roll with it, unless you are dead dead dead dead set on St Andrews?
What was up with the conditions?

I wanted St Andrews as insurance. Durham's better and closer by for my poor parents, so...

So I am considering if a solid offer from Bristol where I don't really want to go is worth more than a maybe from St Andrews where I do want to go.

It was so much easier when they just said 'NO'.

Edit: Meteorshower: read back a couple of pages.

Oh right, do St A's know you only want them as an insurance?
Cos tbh they aren't going to be likely to bend over backwards for you if you only want them as a back up...and they don't have to change the offer to suit what you need for an insurance...
Why not just chalk it up to not suitable for insurance cos it's a high offer?
I see now. I hope you get into Durham so it doesn't matter

Is your Durham offer also so extremely high or have they given you an achievable offer?
Wish you the best of luck with Durham

I know, I thought it would but I'm just even more torn over where to go! I take it you liked Durham when you went then? Any closer to a decision?

I liked it a lot, it's amazingly picturesque and the college I applied to and it's surroundings look so good. St Andrews felt really cosy and close knit though. I'm probably going to choose St Andrews because of money, but it's difficult! How about you?

Yeah the money is a really big thing to consider. I got the same impression, the students seemed like a close-knit community and everyone was really friendly. I'm still arguing with myself over whether or not it would be silly to throw away an opportunity like Imperial though.. I can't decide if it's worth the money!
But if I do choose Imperial it would mean not knowing where I was going untill august 'cause I'm really not confident about getting an A in spanish :/ It'd be nice to know where I'm actually going after summer..
So to answer your question, no I'm not much closer to a decision. :p:

Is it between St Andrews and Imperial?

For physics St Andrews is pretty well regarded, not going to Imperial wouldn't necessarily be throwing away all that much. There's a much bigger difference in location to consider really, if you think you'd like the London lifestyle then I would just go for it. The money can be paid back afterwards, apparently the debt doesn't affect your life too much (apart from it's just there)

Let me know when you decide

Yeah, well Bristol aswell.. but not much point going there over Imperial I don't think, and if I firmed Imperial I'm pretty sure now I would have St. Andrews as insurance so that I'm definately going somewhere.
That's what I was thinking, and seeing as a physics degree is very well regarded anyway I'm not sure if it would make the world of difference. Hmm, not sure what I would prefer! Damn my indecisiveness  :p: . Thanks for the advice though.

I will do, and the same for you .

Why have they given you an unconditional offer for physics if you do not even have your alevel results?
Because she has highers :p:
