You should be... But don't worry Scots are a minority in IR and there are plenty of international students especially America.
if you get an offer from st andrews, definitely take it!

its the most fun uni you'll ever find and won't have any trouble (except 10 year olds hanging outside tesco's on a friday night lol)

Truly QFT.
As much as I would love to get into St.Andrews, i'm slightly put off. I've heard by many that a high percentage of the students are from wealthy backrounds and to be honest, i'm not particularly wealthy so i'm quite concerned about going there from a social perspective. Anyone else feel this way?
I don't think it'll be a problem, surely there'll be people from all sorts of backgrounds, even if it seems the majority are wealthy?? I'm sure there will be enough of us non-rich folk about.
got my history rejection today. ouch.

Speaking as someone from a comprehensive, yes, many are wealthy and most are privately educated. However, in my experience, it doesn't make much difference. There are plenty of deeply unpleasant people here, as elsewhere; it's easy enough to find the people you get on with. When you do, the odds are you won't know their educational background, and even less likely that you'll care.

I'm having a bit of a freak out atm because I just realised:

1. I'm applying to philosophy and bloody IR
2. I'm not foriegn and will therefore not be giving the uni extra money so -1
3. I'm not privately educated -1
4. I'm not going to get AAAAA and was predicted AABBB for higher - 10000000
5. I've applied for IR, why, o, why did I not realise it was the most bloody popular course and why did I apply
6. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

I don't even want sympathy, I just needed to put this somwhere where someone might read it and go 'oh, that appears to be the exact same place I am in right now' then i'll know I appear to have some friggin use and aaaaaaaaaah

:frown:.

I was quite worried about this before starting at st andrews, as i'm not at all from a wealthy family, am relying on student loans and went to school at the local secondary, but really it is not anything to worry about at all! i have had such fun, and made some really really good friends, from all sorts of backgrounds...nobody cares or even knows whether you're wealthy or not! please don't be put off by the fact that there are a lot of wealthy students, cos it rly makes no difference, and coming to st andrews is the best decision i've ever made! love it so so much!

good luck with your application!
Hi everyone, I'm applying for English! St Andrews is lovely, I'd be so happy to get an offer...unfortunately I'm not holding out much hope. Well we'll see I guess.

Thanks. How comes you appear to be at St.Andrews now but it says you are applying for the 2009/10 term?
