Just got an offer for History!!

Am now all confused!! Oxford or St A's? I love them both for different reasons...

But pleased anyway - since the offer's AAB I can put them as my back-up! Got to go visit St A's before I decide everything, but - yay!

Congratulations!

I'd go to Oxford.

Sorry, I know I'm supposed to be loyal to my university, but St Andrews' history department simply isn't as good as Oxford's, unless you're interested in Medieval History in which case... All round reputation is better too, even if St Andrews is up-and-coming.

I just got an AAA offer for Computer Science and Maths... I thought it'd be AAB so I could put it as an insurance offer, but I can't :frown: Oh well!

OFFER OFFER offer OFFER!!!!! !!!
I am so happy!!!

Ancient History and Archaeology

Conditions: Overall grade of 8 at VWO with 9 in Ancient History or History
The overall 8 is near impossible so I hope they'll negotiate that with me, but I already achieved a 10 in Ancient History last year.

congrats on all the offers guys!

just wondering, there's no point in having an insurance which wants the same grades as your firm, is there? lol

if I got an offer from st andrews (unlikely) I would have AAB offers from durham, st andrews and york...would ucas physically let my put two AAB offers down as firm and insurance or would it be more efficient to decline york, or york and st andrews (that's if I get an offer...)

You're accepting Durham over St. Andrews for philosophy. Do you prefer Durham as a place? [you can have an AAB firm; AAB insurance]

you mean durham is better in philosophy?

That's an unequivocal no [from me]. Just wondering why Sammerz has chosen to go to Durham over a potential St. As offer.

I'd Durham and St As are just about equal in general terms. :dontknow:
necessarily benevolent
I'd Durham and St As are just about equal in general terms.

I think it was clear I was inquiring specifically about philosophy.
Argh!
No offers yet! I'm so hopeful in getting to study at St Andrews! I've applied for Social Anthropology and English...Tomorrow I'm going to fax them! :yep:

Yeah RAE 08 puts St. Andy's stop of of the country for Philosophy ^^

Congrats on all the offers guys, making me nervous now!

I'd also put St. A's higher than Durham in terms of Multi-Faculty Universities
im seeing lots of history.... but im guessing no1's heard anything for english yet??
no, not me anyway. They've aknowledged my application and I have to send them some grades and qualifications as I'm not from the UK...but my school is having some problems as I'm the first student who ask them to send something to a forein country...I hope I can send to them a fax tomorrow as I'm getting quite anxious!!!!

I most certainly am!

First of all, Durham as a place, is magnificant, and so is St Andrews, obviously. But Durham is actually nearer to a major city, Newcastle, whereas St Andrews isn't...and I don't really want to spend 4 years in Scotland if I'm being honest lol

Secondly, I'd say in terms of league tables durham and st andrews are about equal - looking at different league tables some put durham above and others put st andrews above...but that was never an issue for me anyway!

Thirdly, I prefer the course durham offers, much better modules, much more choice and while I liked how I could study three subjects at st andrews, I would rather do mostly philosophy and that said; Durham let's you do some outside modules which satisfies me fine.

Fourthly (and lastly) I got into Castle...the most oversuscribed college and the most opulent one I must say  so it would feel wasteful to decline that opportunity!

When did you get your offer by the way??? and congratulations

Philosophy at St Andrews is one of the few subjects that has enough first and second year modules to allow you to take a minimal amount of other subject modules. Therefore meaning more Philosophy.

Maybe one of the Philosophy students can confirm? I only took one module last semester so I am not any authority.
