Sigh, I just got rejected by Edinburgh for English. So St Andrews is now my last hope (It was my first choice after Oxford though). I've got an offer from Lancaster, however they don't have a Russian Department, so I wouldn't be able to keep up my Russian studies unless I tried self-tuition. Fingers crossed for St A's then.

Right, there's been a huge number of people moaning about this.

Grades are not everything. In fact, your personal statement is probably worth more than your grades. There are plenty of people with 4 straight A's at A-level who have been rejected for various unis and various courses.

Just because you meet (or exceed) the entry requirements does not mean you will get an offer. See above.

When you are made an offer, the conditions do not have to be equal to their published entry requirement. The entry requirement is what you generally need. Universities can raise or lower the conditions for your offer on an individual basis. I've seen people need AAA for a course with an entry requirement of ABB, and I've also seen lower. In fact, I've seen one person with an offer of EE for a place at Cambridge..

I think you have misunderstood what she's saying. She's specifically been told she's getting an offer. Offers for first year entry for scottish applicants are pretty much invariably unconditional. Shortcake thinks from her e-mail that it wouuld be a conditional offer, which would be highly unusual.

I shouldn't think so. Different departments reply at different times (depending on the number of applications they recieve). At the end of the day, it's down to the department

I understand this. The difference is I have already sat the exams that I need to get in. Individuals can receive different conditional offers for the same course yes; but I am confused as to why I would be given a conditional offer when I know there are people with the same grades with an unconditional offer. If it was due to personal statement, reference ect surely they would just reject me instead.
Generally, conditional offers for AH's at st andrews are for second year entry.

Anyway, i've emailed the professor so i guess i'll find out soon enough xD

Maybe they assumed second year entry if you're doing AH? Physics is quite often second-year entry, I believe?

I actually genuinely don't want to go there. I'm a city girl and St. Andrews is too close to home!

Theres a bus that goes straight from Edinburgh (just off Princes Street which is right in the centre) to St Andrews. It cost about £5 with a student card, and full price I think it's about £9.
Just firmed my offer

Im quite excited now. Close enough to home to not feel homesick but far enough away to get some independance
yayyy the profesor emailed me saying he made a mistake, the offer is unconditional

wooo at least i now have one offer! haha
