Yeah Chemistry dont have Post-app days specifically but they do invite you to departmental ones only.

Sigh, I just got rejected by Edinburgh for English. So St Andrews is now my last hope (It was my first choice after Oxford though). I've got an offer from Lancaster, however they don't have a Russian Department, so I wouldn't be able to keep up my Russian studies unless I tried self-tuition. Fingers crossed for St A's then.

My hopes are pinned on St Andrews too, seriously, if I got an offer I dont think I would believe them-I've had too many rejections to have much hope left though. :frown:

I just grow tired of all the pernickety reasons given for rejection. Mine from Durham when I asked for feedback was 'Personal statement not focussed enough on literature', when my teacher phoned the English department for some sort of explanation, it was said that 'His personal statement talked a great deal about the 'Russian' literature he had read, the whole thing should have been devoted to 'English' literature' surely you can't divide the canon of literature along purely nationalistic lines?

I'm sorry but at the end of that day it's completely up to them... you don't really have to be satisfied with the reasons they give.

Umm, yes you can.

If you do French, you read French literature in French. If you do German, you read German literature in German. And if you do English, you read English literature in Englis. Saying that Russian literature counts for English is like saying that it counts if you read Jane Eyre in French when you're applying for a French degree. In fact, it counts for less because at least that example shows you have a good degree of competency in the chosen language - applying for English, that is already assumed and not an advantage in the same way.

Good luck! I really want an offer from St Andrews as well...Edinburgh rejected me for English as well. Oh well, hopefully we won't be waiting too much longer to hear from St A's.

Hmm. I mentioned French literature in my personal statement as well as English literature (although only a line or two about the former, and about 2/3 of the statement referring to the latter!) because I applied to a mix of English and English/French courses, and it was the best way I could see to make my ps relevant to each of the courses I had applied to. Maybe that's why Edinburgh rejected me. Meh.

And I get tired of the 'well, we received a lot of really good applications' line as well...fair enough, but why did you choose other applicants over me? I don't believe you drew names out of a hat or something. So give me the reason(s) please :P

I know i've asked this before, but for requesting feedback is there a separate email address for each department, or do i just email the admissions office in general? The only address I can find on the website is [email protected] ...

You email the admissions tutor for your specific subject, the admissions office dont handle your application only the admissions tutor for your subjects. The office probably do the admin work. You should be able to find this in ths specific departmental bit of the website.

I'm considering switching to chemistry and physics degree, if they let me to it (I dont have A-level physics).
I emailed Sarah Dallas-Ross, [email protected], and got a great reply, made me feel a lot better . She can't offer specifics for your application though, so you might want to contact the department.
St A's defo weren't sharing the love with me yesterday! Rejection for International Relations.
It's too cold in Scotland anyway.

Good luck to everyone with applications!
anyone got any offers for English yet?? i think i want to go to edinburgh more anyway, but it'd just be pretty swish to get 5/5 offers... and st a's is the only one i haven't heard from...
