Do you know if Physics/Maths are some of the less competitive courses there? (less competitive than some of the more popular courses such as IR, History and so forth). Hoping to apply next year you see
I think generally physics/maths is a bit less competitive than subjects like english, IR etc
But in the acceptance email for physics it said that the course was really oversubscribed this year, about 10:1 for places... not sure how that compares to the other courses?
I guess most courses at St. Andrews are going to be fairly competitive though anyway

Physics is a lot more competitive than the rest of the sciences as far as I'm aware and bit more competitive than maths. That's what i'd heard anyway. And nothing is as competitive as IR (again as far as i'm aware) but physics is up there with a lot of other really competitive courses.
Hey me too. Do you have any prefrences for where you want to stay??
p.s. My comiserations for anyone who has been rejected
Stay as in where I'll live? I'm thinking I'm gonna sacrifice privacy to live somewhere like St Salvator's or Chattan, one of the old places! Plus they're cheaper and catered unlike a lot of the rest of the residences

Aye...
Well Edinburgh is more piddly about where you're from (i.e. not scot? bugger off) and will choose tiny things (in my opinion) to reject english students applying there! ...not always, but often, they have a bad rep for it.
And they have more than enough applicants to be very selective, but as a rule as St A's is like top 5 uni's in the UK and it has a better english rep it's harder to get in to.
Also, Edinburgh have quotas for Home students and local, that they like to fill so its a bit negative on English app's... St Andrews tend to just pick people they consider the cream of the crop and if they think you will 'suit the place' as it says in the prospectus!
What grades of mine are you after? GCSE? AS? A2 predicts?
