The only drawback of the old beauts' is the room sharing thing...

BTW - if anyone's going self-catered, especially at New Hall - I'm a really good cook, and will cook your food for you if you buy ingredients and I'm allowed to have the extras

Yeah I also love cooking and thats the annoying thing of catered accommodation for me.
Btw do you have to do an english language proficiency test as a condition of your offer?

No I don't, I'm doing the IB in english, and have English A1 SL, it's my first language. (predicted 43, offer is 37)

You? What's your offer and what exam system are you doing?

That's what I thought.
I'm planning to sacrifice privacy for a nice home and room, with a prettier location and hope for a nice room mate

Im doing the German Abitur and Im predicted 1,1 and have an offer of 1,3 so it shouldnt be to hard to fulfil it.
I was a bit surprised that I dont have to do the test allthough English is just my second language.

Yeah I visited John Burnett hall which actually has a lot of shared rooms but they were huge and it would be ok to share a room with a nice roommate.
Do you think international students have a better chance to get a singel room?
Btw which hall is your favourite?

From what I'm told, no first years get a brilliant chance at a single room in the older halls...cos you can't specify, and returning students get to choose (and most pick single)...So it's just pot luck.

Hmm I think St Salvator's or McIntosh (Chattan) Yours?

EDIT: John Burnett does look nice...I'm going up to visit in a few weeks so I might change my mind!

The location of Uni Hall is great but Im not that sure which hall Im going to put down as my preference.
I also heard that Uni Hall has a very good food.
I like the look of University Hall...

Well technically you can't state a preference, it doesn't ask for one on the form, but you can attach a separate bit asking nicely whether you could go to 'x hall' and apparently that sometimes does you good , aswell as tailoring your answers to the halls you want.

Yeah, I heard that Chattan did too...University Hall isn't as central as the others though, and one wing of it is meant to be quite modern? Which put me off it in theory!

But I may change my mind when I visit  But I think I'd add a bit saying 'If possible could I be allocated to Chattan pleassssssssse? ' Ha ha :excited:
You really can't pick what hall your in, doesn't really matter in the end anway... You love wereever you are it seems (Everyone I know is the same and love the friends they have made there and what the experience is.)

There is a section for some extra information and you can put down your preference right there. Offcourse they dont have to give you your preference but its worth to try.
Yeah Uni Hall is a bit more remote but its near the Sports centre.
I still have to decide if i wanna be directly in the town or a bit more outside.
John Burnett Hall would definitely be a good choice though.

Mine has questions about habits, and whether I prefer a single room or not, whether catered/standard etc...but there isn't a bit asking which hall I'd prefer

Unless you meant just what type, rather than the specific hall?
