Hi everyone. I read a couple of PSes on TSR and it looks like they are mostly telling the reader something about what the writer has done, has read, has participated in and so forth...
Now,.. my PS I think is personal on a different level, because I am writing about me as a Person and about an identity conflict that I've had, or still have. Through that I am elaborating my interests, subjects, etc., so it's a whole different approach to the PS. Am I the only one with this kind of approach or is this something common people could do?

It absolutely must relate to your subject, if you're in doubt then post your PS in the PS help forum on here, that way PS helpers can look over it and give you advice without others being able to read it

Hmmm, don't think you're quite on the right track...

No, only PS helpers who are already at uni and so would not want to copy your personal statement anyway. It's completely private, don't worry

the ps help section is private, thread starters can only view their own threads and only members with access permissions (designated ps helpers) can read other's threads

Basically you want to get your personality across but you only have one page to sell yourself so 99% of it must be related to the subject you want to do, with the way you write it expressing your personality.

Explain a little; how is your identity crisis relevant to your application?

Ok, I start off with my identity problem because I am multinational (3 nationalities), I go to discrimination I have experienced but also the good multinationality can do, so I shift over to the topic of diversity and how I can take advantage of that on a global level in the field of economics.

So it kind of goes from very very personal, to ..economics...

@redpanda, do they reply in the PS help forum as quickly as you guys do here?

I don't know exactly what you've written so I can't comment specifically, but I don't think that they'd take such things into account -- unless the discrimination has been very serious? It just seems like a little bit of a tangent, as much as it may be relevant and important to you: the tutor who will be reading it wants to know why you want to study economics and what you've done to prepare yourself -- anything but very serious things about your personal life, and they're not going to be interested in them.

Ok, thanks for the opinion...it is nothing unsignificant though, I guess it's hard to describe the whole thing without really showing it to you. Well, I will be getting help in the PS Help forum soon..

it seems like you are pulling the discrimination sympathy card too much. Obviously none of us have read it so cant really comment but i think it may be a waste of lines/characters - surely there are more applicable things to write about

It depends really on your subject and how many PS helpers there are for that area really. I was replied to pretty quickly because I'm doing languages, but yeah it depends. They will get back to you within a couple of days most probably though

The statements are reviewed as soon as possible, and if they haven't been after three days, they are marked as high priority.
