What to do if your child is in Clearing?

Clearing can be a daunting thought for any prospective students. Here are some tips on how to help your child through Clearing;

Stop - Take a breath, make sure that they have checked the UCAS Track portal to see the decisions of both their Firm and Insurance choices. Although the results may not be exactly what they had hoped for they may still have secured a place on to their chosen course.

Think Take some time to think about the grades they have received and the courses they are interested in. Which courses are going to be possible based on their grades? Have they considered foundation years in the subject area? Are they willing to look at different Universities in locations they may not have considered yet?

Search Search the UCAS clearing tool for courses, look at university websites and the courses that are advertised in Clearing.

Apply On results day most Universities will have helplines open where you can call to discuss your options and apply. At Bangor we also offer Live Chat services where you can apply online through chatting with one of our experts.

Ask Ask the Universities about visits, virtual events where there are opportunities to see accommodation, chat to lectures and support staff.

Accept Once they are sure about their Clearing choice make sure they go into UCAS Track and place the University of choice as their Clearing Option.

Support them, clearing is a confusing time for any student to be involved in so they need the reassurance that everything will be okay and that it will all work out. Help them do research on the uni they have chosen, help them plan their next steps in applying for university, and remind them that they've got a lot to be proud of.
