I just finished first year of computer science in Swansea and I got all 1sts. Looking at the rankings Swansea is around top 25 in the UK for computer science but Swansea is very far from home and I really don't like the uni and the city itself. I would wanna transfer to a uni like surrey or royal holloway which are much closer to me (because im from London) but my A-levels are too **** to get in there (although surrey and royal holloway are like 50th-40th in the rankings).

So I'm thinking going City University of London. Living in central would be a dream but this uni's rank is very poor (like 60th) and the reputation is also not the best.

Do you think it's worth transferring from Swansea to city. Would it be better for me to stay in Swansea? Or perhaps City of London is not such bad uni after all?

Check if City will allow transfers and if they will accept the A level grades you have for that course.
Think about the reality of 'starting again' at a totally different Uni - will it really be as good as you suppose?
Go and walk around that Uni and think about it carefully.

CUOL don't accept transfers for their School of Computer Science, (outside of existing 2+2 arrangements).

If you've got a bag full of 1sts in your first year, it shouldn't matter what your A-levels are - ask around a bit about a transfer - but City would be very low down my list.

Give Kings a go, because why not?

To be honest this is a decision only you can make but many universities wont accept a transfer to 2nd year and you may have to start year 1 again. You will also need appropriate A levels.

Swansea is an awful lot smaller than London and if you are looking at being in a big city might not be for you.

The one thing that does come to mind is that you would have probably been staying on the Bay campus which is some way out of town and away from most places.

Have a think whether staying in one of the new city centre student blocks would work for you. The problems in the last year wont have helped but more things are open now.

Ultimately only you can make the decision but if you want real city life Swansea wont be for you
