Post and title don't quite seem to mean the same thing to me. :dontknow:
I wouldn't fight in a foreign war, but I think I would in a WW1/2 scenario for the UK.

Yes, this is a different circumstance

My grandda said he didn't fight for his country so much as for his family in the Second World War, I often think about that

Interesting. There was a time, pre-ceasefire, that I wanted to "fight and die for Ireland". 18 months later or so, I realised that more than this, I wanted to have children one day. If I was killed or incarcerated, that would be the end of that. Also, I had to be honest with myself and ask how I would feel if innocent people died or were seriously injured as a result of my taking part in military action against the Brits. Don't know if I could have forgiven myself. My G.grandfather, from Co. Offaly, was a soldier, not in the Brit army, but in the East India Company. Some might say that was worse, I don't know. He was born in 1824, died in 1879, and I think he may have had no choice. Either that or starve.

There are things worth dying for, things that are bigger and more important than me as an individual.

It depends on the circumstances.
Would I risk my life just because the government decided that I should? No.
