Am I still eligible to get a 16+ oyster

I turned 18 last month and my 16+ oyster finishes in September but I'm still going to college, I was wondering if I could get another 16+ oyster or will I have to buy the 18+ ? I live in a London borough too

The 16+ Oyster Card is exclusively for people aged 16-17. You may use the card until it’s expiration date - even once you have turned 18.

However, once you turn 18 you are no longer eligible to apply for a new 16+ card. Once you turn 18 and you need a new Oyster Card, you will have to get the 18+ one.

Your educational situation has no role in this - it is purely to do with your age.

The official TFL website should clarify this for you. Each card has its own dedicated webpage laying out the eligibility criteria for each card. Here is the page for the 16+ card: https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/free-and-discounted-travel/16-plus-zip-oyster-photocard#on-this-page-1

Hey!
I'm having the same problem - I created an account on the website but the only two options are the 16+ card (which lasts for another year) or the 18+ student apprenticeship card (which I'm not doing). I read through the page and it says that if you are 18 on the 31 august (and live in a london borough) then you can apply for a 16+ card. So if your birthday is after august you can apply for one - this is the case for me, which is why I think it's an option. However, since you're 18 you'll have to create your own account.

Hope that helps!

The terms and conditions are spelled out here:
https://content.tfl.gov.uk/16-zip-oyster-photocard-terms-and-conditions-pdf.pdf

Specifically:

To be eligible for free bus and tram travel the applicant must be:
aged 16 or 17 on the 31 August 2021 and,
living in a London borough
Or
aged 18 on the 31 August 2021, and,
in full-time education* (their educational establishment must confirm this) and,
living in a London borough

*Full-time education, for the purposes of 16+ Zip Oyster photocard eligibility, means: a
minimum of 12 hours of guided learning per week - between 09:00 and 17:00 Monday-Friday
for a minimum of ten weeks, on further education courses at level 3 or below in a school sixth
form, sixth form college, academy, further education college or other training provider.
Examples of level 3 courses are A Levels (AS/A2), vocational awards such as BTEC and NVQ
qualifications at Level 3, and the International Baccalaureate. They also include
apprenticeships and training courses funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency
provided the age criterion (18 or under on 31 August 2021) is met. The school, college or
training provider will be able to confirm whether the course qualifies.

If you already have one, it's probably still valid; but when it expires you won't be able to get a new one.

You need to get the 18+ Oyster once it expires.

If it says i can apply if I’m 18 on the august 31, doesn’t it mean I can apply if my birthday is before august 31? U said after and i just wanted to know since I turned 18 on august 14
