clearing with psychology?

I've missed out my course by one grade (ABC instead of ABB) and now I'm on the hunt for a decent uni to go to with psychology. I'm not sure if it's possible at this point, considering how popular it is. Is it worth looking for other course options at better unis?
Have a look at Unis like Sussex, Kent, City, Plymouth - or think about retaking that C grade.
Where is your Insurance - is that still safe?

Try not to make a rushed decision. Remember why you applied for Psychology in the first place and how it will fit in with your future plans after university.

You have plenty of time to explore your options. League tables are not important, but finding a course and university that suits you and your future plans is. A total change in course might be something you regret down the line.

yeah it's bangor, but i'm having a lot of doubts about it rn.
Great place - small town, you'll know everyone, and the Uni is lovely.
Think carefully about why you chose it is as your Insurance.

Hi @iFlops,

Not to worry! I'd say it's still worth having a look around and calling up a few universities to see what they can offer.
Have you considered Kent? Our Psychology course has a BPS accreditation and it was ranked 7th for graduate prospects in The Complete University Guide 2021. Here's a link to the course's website if you'd like to have a look yourself: https://www.kent.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/49/psychology

Our UCAS requirements stand at AAB - ABB, however, I'd advise calling our clearing hotline regardless as these are just rough guidelines.
You can phone our Clearing Hotline on 44(0)1227768896.

Let me know if there is anything else I could help you with and good luck!

Hi @iFlops,

Congratulations on your grades - they are super!

You've still got lots of options open to you - many universities will still have spaces left in Clearing for Psychology, so it's always good to have a look around before you make your final decision. Try and think about the most important things to you when you first chose a course and university - you may find other universities who are able to tick some of those boxes for you

It can be a worry trying to work out what's for the best. I declined my insurance choice and went into Clearing and now looking back, it was the best choice for me, but it's important to do what feels best for you.

I've just had a quick look and we still have some places in Clearing for Psychology at the University of Leicester, which I've added a link to here.

All the best,

Ellie
Hi @iFlops

Well done on your grades - they're fantastic! So sorry you missed out on your firm choice, but maybe that's for a reason perhaps? A lot of people who miss out on their firm choice tend to end up loving the place they go to instead, so don't give up hope!

Have you had a look at any other universities? As everyone else has mentioned, there are a lot of universities still offering places on Psychology, so it's definitely worth considering your options.
At Reading we have a number of Psychology courses to choose from, including ones with placement years and so on, so please do have a look at our Clearing page if you are interested - we'd love to help if we can. If it's something you'd like to discuss, our Clearing hotline is on 0118 402 0900 and our team would be happy to talk to you about your options.

Good luck with making your decision - do whatever is right for you.

This is true. I was also considering reading but I've heard the location isn't great.

Hi Skye, I've got an offer for psychology and language sciences, and it looks like a great course but I had some reservations about reading as a place. Would you say it's a nice location to live in?

Hi!

Oh that's great to hear - that's a very closely linked subject to mine! Sorry to hear about your reservations though!

Personally, I have found it to be a great place to live. I guess it depends what type of place you are looking for and what type of person you are, but having just finished my first year and living on campus, I have had a really good experience.
The campus is beautiful and very green which I love, and everything you need is in the centre so while you are getting used to the area and finding your way around, all the essentials are never too far from your doorstep. The campus is relatively small, but big enough that you can enjoy walks around the lake and gardens and that there's enough going on to keep you busy. The reason I actually chose Reading in the end was because of how welcoming the campus was; how friendly the community is and how homely it felt to me as I was really scared about moving away.

In terms of the surrounding areas, the town is about a 30 minute walk from campus (or from Bridges Halls where I lived anyway!) and the buses are very frequent and reliable. The town has everything you need, with the Oracle shopping centre and high street shops, and loads of great restaurants overlooking the river - which is beautifully lit up at night! If you're into nightlife, this is where there are some nice places to go too - although I can't say I've experienced any of that as there have been a lot of lockdowns in my first year and I'm not really into the club scene, but there are some great bars and pubs around as well as clubs. This is also great if you're looking for part time work.

The surrounding villages are very pretty for the most part (there's some lovely old buildings and houses) and appear very chilled to me. I've got a contract for a house in a street about 15 minutes away from the university this year, which is near some lovely cafe's and I've had no issues with those areas either!

Is there anything in particular you're concerned about with regards to the area? Maybe I can help advise you about what it's like? Have you had an opportunity to visit?

If it's not where you see yourself going though, don't pressure yourself to!

Hi iFlops,
Well done on your grades, you should be very proud of yourself. University of Hull currently offers Psychology through clearing and considers your experience as well as your grades if they are not perhaps what you expected. The course offers third year fast track modules which allow you to apply straight to a Clinical psychology PhD (skipping the Masters stage) if this area is something that interests you? The admissions line is 01482 466100 and the course profile is online at https://www.hull.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/psychology-bsc-hons if you're interested  Any questions on clearing or Hull give us a shout, hope this helps!

You don't need to have a masters to apply for the DClinPsy, although many applicants do.

Hello! Have you thought about studying at the University of Suffolk? We still have places available through clearing to start this September with entry requirements of CCC at A level for psychology. The psychology course at the University of Suffolk has been accredited by The British Psychological Society. You also have the ability to choose between a single Psychology route or a joint degree with Criminology or Sociology. Please feel free to call our clearing line to make an enquiry or application at 01473 338352. I have just graduated from the University of Suffolk where I studied Early and Primary Education Studies. I am so happy that I chose to study here as the University of Suffolk is a much smaller University compared to most others, therefore class sizes are much smaller and you have a lot more support available to you. It also means that you have greater access to specialised equipment for your course such as the psychology labs and equipment. I can not fault the University of Suffolk for the quality of teaching and the amount of support offered to you, from personal tutors to academic support advisers. The University also offer lots of different bursaries and scholarships, so I would also look into those if I was you, as they do some great offers for students!
Sophie.
