Marketing interview

Hi I don’t have any marketing work experience but I’ve managed to secure an interview for a marketing administrator role. Does anyone have any interview tips/advice for someone who doesn’t have any experience? I have a degree in a humanities subject and I have done some online marketing courses e.g. google ones, but I’m a bit worried about my lack of experience/skills. Thank you!

Hiya!

I currently work full-time in Marketing and got the role straight out of uni last year (which was very lucky, with the pandemic happening!). I also have a Humanities undergraduate degree.

It looks like Marketing Administrator is quite a research-focused role that looks at target audience groups and how you can target these groups through campaigns. Marketing roles can be really varied; mine is vast and focuses on all areas of marketing, while some people specialise in Digital Marketing etc. It's also one of those industries where the job descriptions aren't very uniform, and one job role somewhere will be different from another company. For this reason, I'd say you have to really look at the job description they've posted and familiarise yourself with all of the tasks that you're likely to complete.

It's also essential to look specifically at the brand you're going to be working on if you get the role, their ethos, their heritage etc. If it's a role within an agency, you'll likely be working on a series of brands. If you're going to be researching one brand, it's great to get an idea of their current target audience and then maybe present this during the interview. It's good to show that you've really done your research and want to produce more insights for the brand to help them improve their brand targeting (or something like that)!

I think in general with marketing, a keenness to learn new skills is essential and have a dynamic skillset. It's quite a fast-paced industry, and you have to respond to markets, new events etc., so adapting is essential.

I think the Google courses will be great to discuss. The fact that you've been selected for the interview without previous experience shows that they must be open to the idea, so at least you can talk about what you've learnt in the courses and areas you have developed.

I hope this helps

Hi!!

I also have an interview for a marketing position!

May I please ask some tips of what to absolutely include in a marketing plan? :frown: It is for a museum & we are suppose to encourage them to book paid tickets instead of accessing the free ones. Should I prepare photoshop flyers? Fake IG post?
