Er, no, to be quite frank I wouldn't care less if I was rejected.
While I recognise that the literal meaning of your post is not the main impression you're trying to drive home Clearly if you were rejected by Cambridge or Oxford you would have had to apply to start with. And you wouldn't pay £10 for your application on top of your standard UCAS application fee, nor have gone to the extra hassel if you 'wouldn't care less'. Anybody who claims that they really don't care that they were rejected, or tries to give the impression that they applied just to see if they could get in, frankly just end up looking as though they care too much about their image
Edit: just saw the latest post, but the general observation still stands.
You only need to ask some of the people on here to see how I felt before I applied. Now, I've come down to earth.
Ok, as long as you don't flip to the opposite extreme, which is the other danger. I was rejected my first time round, and know the feeling. However I think it helped me for my second application, because that time round I had nothing to lose. The worst had already happened, and I was far more chilled.
Emma in Cambridge. It's pretty nice and a lot cheaper than my college.
Emma the college is fantastic, mostly very pretty and also has awesome people and some really good societies, let alone Dr King ( ) - its currently my home away from Peterhouse - however the bar is hideously ugly! I generally only ever drink one or two drinks at a time, so the price isn't really enough to entice me
Where are you at college?

It is indeed late and the content of my post might not be entirely unrelated to its incoherence.

I don't care about my image, I'm telling the truth! Up to the time little after my UCAS application was sent off, I really wanted to go to Oxford, nowhere else. But for one reason or another, the idea lost a bit of its appeal to me. Maybe it's because the university did not seem as mystical and far-flung as before, maybe I felt less that I was good enough. It just did. I truly realized this on Friday when I was given an offer by York. It was astonishing to find I was excited by the possibility of going to a top university next year. If I was feeling the same as I was before, I would have not bat an eyelid; it's not Oxford, I would have thought.
I'm not trying to portray myself to everyone here in a better light. I still want to get a place, it is simply not that powerful a desire anymore. Even so, I am preparing for the written test to ensure the best chance for my getting an interview. I would be devastated if I didn't get one, but if I do get one and got rejected as a result, disappointed, but very little skin off my teeth. I've got an offer from York!
Mmm yes, but that's not the same as not caring at all. Nobody likes being rejected on supposedly academic grounds. That's just psychology I was quite miffed that Bristol had rejected me for Politics when York had given me an offer.

..and Scipio: by now TSR may collectively be giving you the hint that correcting peoples' english probably won't amount to much popularity, charming though you are in every other respect

The 'mostly very pretty' part presumably referring to the eyesore of South Court? It may be ugly, but I do very much love living here. The nautical theme is bizarre though... I don't know if you've been into the accomodation bits next to the bar, but our fire alarm buttons look like portholes, and it feels like being in a submarine when you're in the staircases. I couldn't love it more though
I think anyone complimenting Emma will just send me off on a huge spiel about how great it is, so I will contain myself now, and say that yes, it's awesome and leave it at that
