The bar's not much of a looker either :p:

The impression I always get while in the bar is 'sticky'. It could be worse though, they have made some effort... Albeit with horrendous squodgy blue stuff and random coils of rope :p: And the bar's in South Court anyway, so it all counts!

Ours used to be nauseatingly ugly, but thankfully they refurbished it between my interview (when I was first assaulted by it) and my arrival! And ah - I wasn't exactly sure what South Court was. Thanks.

Yup, South Court's the obligatory 60s monstrosity where I live, which also happens to contain the bar. I love how they decided to house the freshers in the same building as the bar

Ours is in Old Court for some reason. Central I suppose. Also the territory of finalists and the upper cream of the second year.
I've only been in the Emma bar once, and it felt like I'd entered some kind of alternate universe.

Our bar is in first court. Handy for the library. And the chapel.

..from Star Trek
The Emma bar is really tacky, not classy like the Clare cellars

I was in Emma for a rehearsal last night, and I thought it was lovely :p:
Oh, so it was the University orchestra rehearsing in the Queen's building yesterday then? I thought it might have been the college orchestra or something.

No I was at a play rehearsal for Peter Pan (come and see it at the ADC - 4th to 8th of Nov!). I don't even play an instrument....

Erm, guys, if you want to discuss how great Emma is (not that I doubt that it is), could you please do it on the Cambridge chat thread? This is supposed to be a thread about the "negatives of Oxbridge", not the "positives of Emma"...
tbh are there any differences between Oxford and Cambridge?

what are the negatives of Trinity college (cam) and merton college (ox)?

Yes. They're separate universities, in case you hadn't noticed...

that I can think of:
- Large (might feel lost in the crowd)
- Very touristy
- and more which are really variations on large e.g. at a smaller college you are more likely to be able to get on to the college team for stuff :p:, but I suppose larger colleges probably have more college teams so it evens our .

Also, what on earth do you mean are there any differences between Oxford and Cambridge. Are there any differences between Edinburgh and St. Andrews?

Edinburgh:

Situated in the capital of Scotland.
Edinburgh has its own airport.
It is generally warmer than Fife.
Lots of Gothic/Medieval architechure in Edinburgh.

St Andrews:

Located in a smaller city = Fife
It's by the coast.
Much smaller in comparison to Edinburgh.
The city is smaller as well.
Generally, better league table ranking than Edinburgh.

Just to name a few. :yep:

He was taking the piss out of your stupid question.

I'd rather go to a "lesser" university than be treated like a child.

It's the same with RADA, you know. Any notion of what it means to focus and dedicate yourself to one endeavor for delimited periods of time?
I'm working now, just so I can stay in the UK and go through the whole application process, and I only have the option of doing a job I really don't like. Trust me, I'd rather spend my time doing something I'd enjoy and being able to take the time to read as much as I like. I think people truly passionate about their subject can allow themselves to enjoy this, term-time, for three years. Plenty of time to struggle for money and neglect what's meaningful to you later on :p:
Question slightly off topic, but I need answers! I understand that term time in Oxford is brief (8 weeks?), and so do you return home between every term? This sounds pretty unappealing to me as it would mean spending more time at home than at University!
