Hi there
I have been successful in an interview with DWP as a job coach.

I want to take the job but I have been self-employed after coming out of University before getting full-time employment two years ago.
Unfortunately, I did not complete my tax Self assessment forms so I will owe HMRC money.

I will be really happy to disclose this and pay them over time.

1- Will the fact I haven't sent in Self-assessment come up on Pre-employment checks?

2- Will I fail pre-employment checks?

3- If I do get through pre-employment checks?

4 if I disclose once started will they sack me for tax non-compliance before I disclose to HMRC?

I did not do this deliberately, I had registered as self employed but suffered from mental health after Uni for a number of years and have psychiatric treatment.

I want to get on the straight and narrow and a Civil Service job would help me but im frightened I get 'found out', no job and an investigation started - the worst of all worlds- help!!!

I have been offered a job with the DWP and have just completed my pre employment checks. I have also been self employed, when you complete the form they ask if you have ever been self employed and if this was conducted satisfactorily . They also ask for your last tax return to be uploaded. My checks took a little longer to complete and they phoned me to ask if I owed any tax and if I was up to date, which I am. They cleared my checks but did look into it, however I had my return to prove I am upto date.

Remember the civil service code is all about honesty and integrity, so don't lie. Go for it there is no harm in trying but be up front.

Goodluck.
