Hi, I’m currently doing A level biology, psychology and economics. I want to become an ultrasound technician/sonographer. I’ve done a lot of research so I feel it’s best to do a undergraduate degree in diagnostic radiography then a postgraduate diploma or MSc is medical ultrasound. Is this the correct route to take? Also, I want to specialise in obstetrics to do pregnancy scans. Is it necessary to do any other courses for this (doing midwifery as undergrad instead) or can I just get a job after those two degrees? Thanks.

You must complete a degree in either radiography, midwifery, nursing, science or health science and you would probably have to practice for some time after qualifying in any of these, then you must complete a post grad course or Masters in medical sonography, you would probably have to practice in general sonography for some time before being able to specialize. I was VERY passionate about Obstetric sonography but did give up when I saw the amount of work, time and education that must go in to it. Hope it helped. My advice would be that midwifery and nursing would be the easiest degrees.
