commute first year and move out in 2nd?

i have an offer for accommodation i am starting my first year i can see my lectures are virtual and a few of my seminars are too keeping that in mind i was thinking maybe it’s better to commute first year and move from next year and get the experience as we’ll just save money for first? if lectures weren’t online maybe it would be worth moving out and paying rent ? also my accommodation is a 20 min walk to campus even though it’s one campus which put me off as well cause i wanted something closer any suggestions i’ll i be able to get the uni experience after moving in in 2nd year?

Hi!
I have just finished my first year and lots of my lectures and seminars were online (most of them). I stayed in halls of residence and it was a really great way to socialise and meet new people, especially because we didn't get the chance to do that in lectures as they were online.
There is no harm in staying at home, but it may mean that you find it harder to socialise in your first year.
In 2nd year lots of students move out of student accommodation and find other places to live. If you were to move into student accommodation you may not find people in your year to socialise with but there will still be lots of other people to make friends with. Alternatively, you may make friends in your first year and decide that you all want to move out and live together in your second year.
There are pros and cons for both sides but it definitely doesn't mean that you won't make friends or have the uni experience, it will just be a different uni experience to those living in halls. It is what you make of it really.
Hope this helps!
