Social ideas for a university social sec!

I'm a social sec for this upcoming year for a friendly sports society. I was wondering if any had any good ideas for socials?
Or if anyone had been on any socials that they really enjoyed!

Coming up with social ideas isn't the easiest - I've been there :biggrin:

Ultimately, the best social ideas are the ones that are best for your members. By getting to know the members on your society, and finding out what they like and don't like you'll be able to organise the best socials for them - do they like drinking, do they like active socials, would they prefer something quieter?

Having said that - here's a few personal favourites beyond the usual pub crawl & themed nights out (which are both awesome too :smile:

):
- Board Game Night: I've taken societies previously to a local board game cafe, it's great for those that don't like drinking as much (so that you can include as many people as possible) and also a great way to be able to talk to each other and get to know each other. It's also a super cheap, but super fun, night out for when money is a bit tight but you still want to have fun.
- Movie Night: Why not get everyone to vote on their favourite film? Invite everyone to bring snacks, drinks, etc. Again, this is great for non-drinkers but there's no reason you could add some (responsible) drinking games in alongside it.
- Collab with other societies: One of the best socials I've organised was a collab between 4 other societies - we all went bowling together and promoted it as a massive joint event. All the members from the different societies got to meet new people, have a good time and go out for drinks afterwards (if they wanted to). In your case, as a sports society, why not have a fake and fun "sports day" - you could have other societies try your sport, you try theirs, or bust out the sports day classics. Why not include fancy dress too?

It can be hard to think up new social ideas, I've been there! Here's a few that our members liked:

•

Monopoly Run/ on campus scavenger hunt - monopoly run works giving a list of lots of different locations they have to visit with challenges at each one

•

Chippy hike - a walk between different takeaways

•

Collab socials - see if any of our members are part of any other societies as see if you can run a joint social. These tend to be a great way to meet new people and try a new activity.

•

Bowling, Crazy Golf, Trampoline park, Ice skating

•

BBQ

•

Craft nights

•

Master chef/bake off - see if you can rent an on campus kitchen. Then either provide lots of random ingredients or give each team a £5 budget and see what they make.
