For each subject I have my standard school notebook , but should I make a seperate notebook with summarised and generally better notes for each subject to help me revise in the future? Has anyone else done this, or is this just a waste of time?

Yes of course you can!
If that is your preferred way of revising, then do that.
I personally use a mixture of flashcards, mind maps and notes to revise. Don't spend too much time trying to make your notes beautiful or anything - that is definitely a waste of time. And make sure that, if you do write notes, they are concise and not just copied from your textbook.
