Hey guys ! Got an Unconditional Offer from Glasgow for Medicine !! I was wondering what people thought of Murano Halls and QM halls since i will be applying to both of them with QM being my 1st choice.

It depends what you want out of accommodation. If you want a more quiet, more peaceful atmosphere go with QM.
If you want to be more in the heart of the 1st year social scene go with Murano. It's bigger and it's brasher but you'll probably get to meet more people.

I went to Murano and it was pretty awesome (except for when the fire alarm goes off at 4 in the morning and you have to stand outside half dressed, half asleep and on the verge of hypothermia )

So on a day when lecturers are going on strike, the university is telling students just to come in as normal anyway? I can't decide whether the uni is being genuinely stupid or trying to draw out anger amongst students who turn up for classes all day only to find they're not on. Either way it's going to be interesting :holmes:

I have two tutorials on Thursday, wonder if they'll be on.

Everything in my department has been cancelled.
They've even gone to the lengths of changing the assessment of final year group posters we've been working on for a month. Instead of us being there to defend the content and answer questions - and we've created posters on the basis that we would have that chance - they're now going to mark them on Friday without any students there.
It's an understatement to say the news didn't go down very well :shifty:
Essay deadline moved to Friday, 1 lecture still one, 1 tutorial on but happening off campus
Guys do you think that QM might be pretty much full by now ? I just got my offer yesterday and thats my 1st choice accommodation :frown:

Maybe, maybe not...only one way to find out (by that I mean put it as your 1st choice!)

ALSO, Munn, were you at Kushion tonight? Because I saw someone who looked like you!

Thanks for the link
So if you had to choose out of all of them for 1st year, would you go for murano?
Is murano only for glasgow uni students? a thousand students living in one place must be crazy right? sorry i know nothing about any of this

if i were u i'd go for murano. i've been there before and its perfectly livable, at least the flat i was in. first year isnt that hard for most subjects anyway tho some of them might have a few deadlines, but if you need to get work done just go to the library. but yea my advice is to socialise as much as you can in first year and its difficult to do so if ur accomm isnt that great in that respect. i for one wish i had been placed in murano cos i found meeting ppl a bit difficult but ah well

thanks for the advice.
are there really a thousand students? is the building site quite big then? must be like four or five floors.
did you notice any major differences between the small flats and the big ones? which one would you prefer in your opinion

does the strike today mean buildings aren't open?
just wondering, because my class is meant to be on because the teacher's not part of the union, but if the Hetherington building's actually shut I could just go back to sleep...

the murano village is quite big, not enormous but there are between 10-20 building there and each building has like 5 flats i think. id prefer the big flats hands down cos ull get to know so many ppl that way and theyre not that loud actually. they also have like 3 showers and 3 toilets (in separate rooms) so u dont have to worry about that too much  i dno about the smaller flats but the bigger ones also have cleaners come in every once in a while to clean the bathrooms etc

Buildings aren't run by teachers I don't think.

I have a tutorial at 2 in the Stair building and I know that's open.

I thought it was an 'all academic staff' strike so I figured maybe that's all Glasgow Uni staff :p: Was on anyway.
Although the subway decided not to work instead :/
