I'm pretty prepared I think! Gonna order my books tomorrow, get reading them! Defs re-joining gym (now I live so close by, no excuse!) Want psychology for my third subject so fingers crossed! All in all pretty damn excited!

haha I aimed to re-join the gym last year with the same motivation as you (living really close) it failed, but good luck ! :P

I'm off to France in 5 days for my erasmus year at IESEG. I can't wait but it will be solid - 60% of my courses are at Masters level. Some courses start on Monday and finish with an exam on Friday!

Hi
Have anyone received an offer of uni accommodation these days? If yes, where you'll be staying and what your choices were?

Ooo you spending the year in France? One of my friends is doing that, I'm gonna miss her! She was great fun!

is everyone ready for their next year? Anyone learning a new language, joining a new society or going to try and go to the (already packed) gym?

I wanna learn BSL, but don't have enough money to justify a course this year, plus I'm job hunting with no experience so don't want to write off an evening. Buuut I am planning to actually get the gym membership this year, so I can go swimming (rekindled love from childhood) & possibly to the gym (don't hold me to it)... Also on the lookout for a society to join. Can't say the pole dancing society hasn't crossed my mind but not sure I'm brave enough .

Edit: plan to join a geeky life sciences society actually, like the G-Nomes or whatever they're called. Cos I want the extra lectures

There's a geeky life sciences society?? I'm there!

I'm still not even on my summer holiday's yet, slowly losing the will to live...

Is this rant about the Latin on our degrees still going on? Seriously, I doubt people are going to alter each others solidified views about it - I think we should talk about something else.

I'll kick us off; is everyone ready for their next year? Anyone learning a new language, joining a new society or going to try and go to the (already packed) gym?

I joined the gym in Freshers week last year. Never went once. Hopefully I'll make it along a couple of times this year. I'm also hoping to meet more people in lectures/tutorials - most of my friends are from societies, and it would be nice to have more friends doing the same subjects as me!

Haha hi  Yeah, there's a molecular biology & genetics society, & an infection & immunity society I think...

I believe in progression, and in tradition. Traditions don't bother me as long as they're not hurting anyone. I don't know. I just think if you looked into the university before you went there, you'd be hard pushed to miss its obsession with the traditional, and if something about the university annoys you as much as this obviously annoys PerigeeApogee, you should possibly think about not going there.

People generally don't look for tradition and I really can't see how a 17 year old is supposed to know about each of the 130 universities's obsessions when they really have no means of doing so. The university doesn't exactly print its prospectuses in Latin.
Let's put it this way...some people like the tradition. Others don't. I personally would feel mildly cheated if my graduation didn't have tradition's involved. We are an old university and some degree of tradition should be expected. Now can we please move on to a different topic...

I ordered my Eng Lit books today...got a lotta reading to do!
Also bought some new boots and a gym bag...now I have a gym bag shall have to go to gym!
I can't wait to start at Glasgow. I am desperate for something to focus on. I hope it's everything I hoped it would be.

Thanks. Is there anywhere we can buy all the books we need together? Are there specific editions we need? Is there a uni bookshop or something where we can buy them at discounted prices? (We had one at Strathclyde).

And will we definitely need to buy all of them? At Strathclyde I was sick of paying £9 for a book we would use for one hour-long tutorial and never touch again.
I have received some sort of Fresher's Pack so I take it that they're letting me into Fresher's Week as I'll be a Glasgow n00b despite being a second year :colonhash:

Thank you very much. Have you bought them yet? Would I have to buy the 2A books first, or should I just get 2B at the same time anyway?

Yeah I have bought them  I bought them all at once so they could all be sent home. I'll only read 2B over Christmas holidays though!

I regret buying every book I ever bought at uni. They were way over-priced and, like you said, we never used them enough to justify buying them.

The ones that were useful, I was able to download online.

But you don't study Eng Lit...

I can't afford £90 atm, not until I get my SAAS. :frown: I think I'll just get Achebe just now and buy the bundle later.

What if we're in the same tutorial groups? :ahee:

Could be! Don't know if we get to choose this year or not!

Trust me, any of the texts you use in Eng Lit are way easier to find online for free in high quality PDF than the ones I spent 4 years searching for.

Trust me you need to scribble all over your actual book so online is so not useful unless you're going to print it all out.
