Toronto, UBC, Calgary

Full year, Eng Lang can't just do a semester :nah:

Guess who's also applying to Toronto and UBC? O:

(And McGill!)

Does anyone know where the nearest supermarket is to Winton Drive/Queen Margaret? Due to the storm being evil and trying to kill my flat, I've had to go into halls for a little while.

I debated McGill...but the skiing near Calgary is better :colondollar: :colondollar:

Aren't the Toronto courses BEAUTIFUL?!

Hey :smile:anyone any experience of the Dumfries campus?

Why only Canada btw? Also don't you get 5 options?

Yes I get 5...but I only want 3.

Didn't purposefully choose only Canada, they just have best Eng Lang courses.

Yeah Toronto ones look ace, UBC looks pretty crap though. I might take a peek at Calgary as well. I have Politics to think about as well which is quite annoying since McGill is the only uni I've looked at so far that has great courses in both subjects... You should really reconsider McGill though, there are some fantastic-looking courses there too

UBC is kinda average looking coursewise but the uni itself looks fab.

Ahhh tricky doing two subjects :console:

Hmmm I might reconsider McGill, but I'd find it very odd being in French speaking place (although I did do A Level French so it's not too much of an issue!)

My heart has been sold to Toronto though!
I think I would be quite happy with Toronto, at the moment there aren't a great many Politics courses I'm interested in but I need to take another look now I that I've been told I have pretty much free rein to choose what I like for it as long as it is within the realm of politics, whereas for English we need to find some equivalents for the Glasgow courses.

Yeah, the French isn't going to be my favourite part of the exchange... If McGill was located in Toronto or Vancouver it would be my dream uni! It's like I'm fated to be in a non-English speaking environment in my third year, since I was originally supposed to be doing a Spanish degree and now I'm being drawn to Quebec ><

TBH the courses I've chosen aren't really perfect fits with the Glasgow courses...but I've emailed Catherine Emmott to see if that's okay. It's still possible for me to do 4th year courses at Glasgow so it should be okay hopefully!

Vancouver looks like an amazing city :yep: as does Toronto. Calgary doesn't look like such a nice place but SUCH good skiing!

I really feel like skiing should be a big part of my motivation to go to Canada, but I've never really skied or had much desire to, but I'm always up for trying new things and Canada seems like a pretty bloody decent place to try skiing! I'm not quite sure exactly what's attracted me to it really, Canada's just always struck me as a laid back, cool place (where they know how to actually deal with snow, unlike the UK!) with quite a pleasant accent :P

Oh definitely if you end up out there you've got to ski! And if we both end up out there I will happily take you skiing! Yeah I know what you mean about Canada, just seems lovely! Plus bacon :ahee:

Then at the end of the year I'd probably do a bit of a tour of America, especially if I ended up at UBC because of it being so close to California etc.
Original post by G8D
California is lovely.

Also, 1000 miles isn't close

Close in comparison to how close I am to California at the minute...
Original post by G8D
I guess if you could get a flight it's be ok.

I just had this idea of you hitching a ride or something... 21 hour drive :nothing:

But yeah. It's a good state.
Granted I've only been to Cali and Florida.. but still great.

Oh noooo defs flying :yep: although road trip across USA is on my bucket list...

I've only been to Florida :yep:

Will you be old enough to legally drink in Canada come 3rd year?

Legal drinking age is 18/19 dependent on state which I already am :yep: And by May in 3rd year before my tour of America I'll be 21 :ahee:
Original post by G8D
Oh, nice. I just always assumed it would be the same as American and be 21.

Good stuff :top:

Nah Canadians are cooler

Indeed, it's all a cunning plan :awesome:
If you're under 21 and want to go to the US*, just go to a campus Uni. My mate went to Urbana and was pissed 8 days a week even though he was still 20.

*Didn't read the fred, might not apply to anyone.
Oh yeah, that's the other reason I chose Canada: drinking. =D

Drinking, bacon and skiing were pretty much my reasons. Obviously that's not what I'm saying in my Personal Statement though :colondollar:
So the referendum will be held in autumn 2014.

Not sure how I feel about this. I quite like Alex Salmond as he is 100% for Scotland and the Scottish people, but I don't think independence is economically viable.

I do love how Cameron is ****ting himself over it though.

Personally, I'm 90% sure devo-max will be approved and full blown independence won't. But since devo-max will prove that Scotland is perfectly capable of handling its finances on its own, complete independence will follow in a few years. I think the main reason why Cameron's so terrified about the referendum is devo-max, not independence and that's why he's talking all the nonsense about a single question referendum (which wouldn't include questions on devo-max).
