Because decisions like this should be rooted in principle and it's abhorrent to divide up a country on the basis that you will have more money if you draw the borders a certain way.
As much as I reject nationalism on the grounds that I am an individual without any sentimental attachment to a clump of earth and the only independence that matters is individual freedom, I also believe redistribution of wealth is a force for good.
Are you saying that you aren't proud to be Scottish?
(I'm not saying you can't be against independence and proud but why not be proud of where you come from?)
Just got a conditional offer from Glasgow! For English lit- can anyone tell me what it's like, because I've been hearing some horror stories about the place
Also how likely are they to let you in if you miss your offer? It's already lower than their standard offer, perhaps because I'm international, but I'm terrified of getting below 34 points...

Personally I haven't been enjoying the Eng lit course, but then again I think I'm more of an English language person some of my friends absolutely love Eng lit, so it kinda depends on the person. It's quite hard work (you roughly study 1 book a week which means there's a lot of reading) but definitely manageable.
Agreed, however at the same time the decision isn't so much "if we become independent will we have more money" but "if we become independent will we all be ****ed economically"
i think if the scottish people felt they would be no worse off as an independent nation economically - not necessarily better off though - support would increase.
Yeah this is true. I hate how the entire debate has focussed on process and not what a post-independence Scotland would look like (grudgingly, I'll credit the Tories for trying to move this on).
I agree about the Scottish people too, but I don't really think much of their decision making tbh.

Yeah, not proud, not ashamed either. I'm neutral; it's a fact I'm Scottish. I didn't do anything to affect it, I didn't choose it. There are few places better to be born (although there certainly are some) so I'm grateful I landed here. I see no reason to be proud of something I had no hand in, or to raise the achievements of people who lived here before me above those of people who lived elsewhere.

Crime rate My brother, who's in St. Andrews, basically told me not to go to Glasgow unless I want to get stabbed. Now I know I'm not going to get stabbed, but... wouldn't want to go to a very big city, even though it can't be any worse than where I come from, admittedly. (New Delhi)

And because of taking multiple subjects there's no issue if you realise you don't want to study Eng Lit (which is very good as it meant I could switch to Eng lang without any issue!)

Yeah that's why the Scottish system sounds sooo good! I wanted to take English lang as an outside subject too! Is it all grammatical studies, though?

Nooooooo only one module a year is grammar it's very definitely worthwhile to do as an outside subject (even if, unlike me, you don't feel it's your passion, it does help with the study of Eng lit and you have to do 1 year of it to do honours Eng lit!)
