Katie Lowe described the misuse of apostrophes today as an "epic fail"
I absolutely detest 'Poor Things' and I'm doing my presentation on it FML! It's such pretentious rubbish, I usually loathe science fiction anyway but it really is awful
Are you allowed to tear a book apart in a presentation? (Not literally )
EDIT: You may well ask why I elected to do that book if I hate it so much, but it was the only text I hadn't read yet at the beginning of the semester

Ha ha Katie Lowe is such a legend!
I haven't read it and not sure I plan on it!
Erm I wouldn't suggest ripping into it...on my presentation feedback slip she commented on how nice it was that I was enthusiastic about the book!

Well our tutor knows how much I liked all the rest of the texts, so I'll just say I'm being ~original by hating this one I'll try and be subtle about it though and not just turn it into a rant Like, attempt to be balanced ... even though science fiction bores me rigid.

Well I think as long as you still talk about the book it'll be fine!
Frankenstein is infused with some elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement and is also considered to be one of the earliest examples of science fiction. Brian Aldiss has argued that it should be considered the first true science fiction story
Hi everyone! Since you guys are the experts, I was wondering if I could ask you a question. I applied for Philosophy, but after a bit of thinking I realised it's probably not what I want to get my degree in. One of the reasons I chose Glasgow was because of its subject flexibility, as I knew this would happen and I've never really been 100% sure of what I want to study (I have many interests I guess). Anyway, I think I want to study Politics and Sociology alongside it and eventually get a joint honours in those subjects. I know I would have to switch from an Arts degree to a Social Sciences degree. Does switching ever happen/would it even be possible? Thanks!

I know a lot of people who changed their mind about their degree, as long as you meet all the requirements (e.g. to do Eng Lit single honours you have to do Eng Lang level 1), you should have no problems switching.

I've swapped from doing Eng Lit to Eng Lang (not really a major switch but still) it is possible!

I switched from Hispanic Studies (Arts) to Politics and English Language (Soc Sci/Arts). It's incredibly flexible, and Arts and Soc Sci are basically one department, it's very fluid so you'll easily be able to switch
It would be pretty fantastic if sexism and imperialism was just literary bull****, actually.
Amen. I just felt the long sentences with all these theoretical terms applied to the one text started to sound pretty ridiculous. I mean I appreciate texts can fit more than one genre/theory etc but that was just silly
