All the best things are bad for you. Scooby snacks, beer, and sex (probably - you know how these scientists like to ruin everyone's fun).
Thought I'd bump this thread back up (for a moan :ninja:).

I still have over 2 weeks to wait until I move back to Glasgow and it's killing me. What really is the point of having such a long holiday?!?! Who in their right mind needs 4 months (it may only be nearer 3 for some of you, but even still). No wonder there's such an outcry in England about tuition fees when we're really only at university for about 6/7 months. Bah, who else can't wait? I bet loads of you have found work that is fulfilling and keeps you busy, whereas I sit around in a museum all day (tbf, it's not all bad - just means I have plenty of free time to think about going back in September :frown:).

Been serving coffee for the past 4 months, to say I can't wait to get back is an understatement.

TBH, I can do all the good things I'm doing now whilst at Uni, so I might as well be back studying something I enjoy. Plus, town hasn't been half as busy during the summer which isn't so great.
I got back yesterday :woo:

I got back yesterday

Lucky for some. A lot of my friends are back/haven't really left and only about 2 of them are due back in the next couple of weeks. Really hope I get a job in Glasgow for next year - not keen on coming back home for 4 months (even though I'll have to buy food and stuff staying up there).

Roll on the 19th!!!

Hey I just got my new PBL group and I was wondering how the shuffled affected you?? I'm a little nervous that I might be left in a cohort all by myself lol.

A week tomorrow for me!

Oh and is anyone else having trouble accessing webmail? x
Webmail is working fine for me.

I actually can't wait to start back, give me something to do with my time.

Don't worry, you'll be fine! I was in C in first year and A in second year. It seemed like half of A switched with half of C and B nearly stayed the same!

You'll more than likely know at least someone and if not, it's a good chance to get to know more of your year. I think I can recognise almost everyone until some lectures where I see people I swear I've never seen before. Most of my closest friends now, I didn't even know at all this time last year!

On the first week back, you'll be given an exercise with your new PBL group - you'll be given a famous person that had an illness and have to research it and then give a presentation to half of your year. (Meaning you also have to sit through 15 of them...)

I'm liking the 3rd year timetable - I finish 4th December. :p:

So far most of my mates are in B :frown: :frown: which is really crap!

I'm actually looking forward to doing that!
Can anyone explain this new licensing act that's come into effect? It's confusing me! I've heard it bans "irresponsible promotions" but what exactly is "irresponsible"? I've heard that it means drink promotions have to be on for 3 days or more, is that true? How will this affect unions with club nights etc.?

There are ways that clubs can do promos for one night, so it shouldn't mean the end of them.

The drinks promos have to start at the opening of the premises and run for 72 hours after if there are to be any. The QM is already showing signs of doing that, I think they had beers advertised at £1 for 3 days running.

No happyhour, double-up for £1 or any of that jazz.

The GUU has become a private members club following a bit of a stooshie at an Orange walk in the summer, so this may exempt it from the Act actually.

Sauchihall street will have pubs closing at 12pm instead of 1pm, no drinks on outside tables after 10pm (only affects Kushion and Karbon IIRC?) and some other stuff that is all Glasgow City Council's interpretation of things.

I don't expect that much to change.

Glasgow council has seriously messed this up. There are backlogs of applications, a 'child' is anyone under 18 whilst it's anyone under 16 elsewhere in Scotland.

No one knows what is going on to be honest.

Yeah, a "child" also has to be accompanied to the toilet in a pub under their rules.

Weirdos.
Thanks.

Does the GUU becoming a private member's club affect student access to it?

There's a sign on the door to the effect of "Only members or people accompanied by members can buy drink at the bar".

I think it will be the same as it was for the Hive etc- you need to be a member or be with a mate who is a member.

Just speculating, though, no doubt someone else on here will know more.

I thought it was always that way? Or does this mean it's like that during the day too, rather than just the evenings? I'm generally not in the GUU very often but I'd like to have the option to go.
