I knew that would happen.

I was just wondering if they gave some important info for foreigners to know about the U.K. (law, customs, how to make sure you don't offend the Scots etc.) or something like that.

Possibly more useful to the non-European students, but don't **** in the urinals. (I have personally seen a sign on the toilet door in the library requesting this)

Also, it's illegal to drink in the streets and parks and the way to call over a waiter or policeman is to extend your index and middle finger in a V shape with the palm turned to you and move the fingers back and forth.

My advisor has changed :frown: No idea why tho because my last one was the course coordinator for my degree and this one is more into Cell Signalling than Genetics :frown:

Any one else's change?

Yes. I'm gutted, I <3 Chris Finlay :frown:

Did you have Kevin or Joe before? Who is it now? I've never even heard of mine before :frown:

Kevin :frown: I'm going to miss his wee cup covered in flies. I've got Shireen Davies now.
Who have you got?

Knowing a few Brits, I have reasons to believe that wouldn't get me the attention I'd want.

And I know the French aren't famed for their cleanliness, but ****ing in the urinals is not something we do regularly. I should be alright.

I want it noted that when she "signed" an email reply to me, she spelled her own name wrong.

Excellent!

I may continue to email Finlay and hope nobody's told him he's not my advisor any more.

I hope she doesn't read this forum

I have a book of his that he lent me, I will go to his office and return it and tell him I am displeased. If she is terrible then we can complain about her together, Heather also has her. We can form a gang.

Ah the SNP, never short of bribery money.

Not gonna lie, Alex and friends have seriously moved up in my estimations. This is such good news, means I don't have to get a job at uni this year to fund next summer's activities. But I'll still never vote SNP, so I win.

Also, I can't believe that reading this thread is the first I've heard of this change. It's the kind of thing I thought would have made more of a splash in the news, on Facebook etc.

If it seems too good to be true it probably is, could well be a hoax.

But it's on their website... and everything on the internet is true :K:

It actually looks like it! Every single person I know in genetics has her now! And I know, for this meeting with her that "must happen on 5th September" it just says she's in the Davidson building, not where inside the building. Also I was annoyed at having to fill out a doodle poll for a meeting which was sent to us by some other woman (her secretary?) I find that type of behaviour makes advisers unapproachable. My old one was all for you just dropping in when you needed a chat, no formalities.

Good plan, yeah her email was like "welcome back students, we need to have our first meeting and the time for that is Wednesday 5th September, please fill out this doodle poll with a time"

I don't think the meetings HAVE to be done by then, I just think she's being overly formal and organised. I hate people like that.

It's on the SAAS website and they sent out an email yesterday about it. Also, reported here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2012/aug/22/scottish-students-generous-funding-uk and presumably elsewhere. It's too good to be true, but it actually is. YAY

It did look like a total hoax at first though.
