Ha ha I'm on TSR in the library in Calgary cos fed up of flatmates smoking weed in flat :puke:

Calgary is amazing and awesome and I'm SO glad I decided to do a year abroad! Literally best three weeks ever, done so much :h: work is insanely hard though, got two assignments due tomorrow, a test and an assignment the week after and then at least an assignment a week after that. How's Eng Lang in Glasgow?

Wow, sounds ace  The workload here is nowhere near that bad... I've gone with Onomastics and History 5A, and for each of them there's only 2 hours of class a week, and one essay due this semester (in December) so it's not exactly taxing :P So happy to have Jeremy all year though, such a legend. OH and we now have an Eng Lang society!!!!!!!!!11 Going to a social on Weds which should be interesting...

Jeremy is such a babe! Though one of my profs looks like Robert Downey Jnr. I have 3 hours with him each Tues and Thurs

Ha ha I'm part of the Linguistics soc here...IPA Scrabble plus trips to see a cadaver to examine vocal organ, epic win!

I will totally be joining when I'm back next year!

Us linguists have all the cool jokes!

Also over here in syntax we do syntax trees and my syntax prof finished his email by reminding us to print handouts double sided because "Syntacticians love trees"

I think that one of the teams that won a GU drinking competition is called that... don't judge me for having spent enough time in the beer bar to know.

Why not make the society name just a rude joke:

"Why is English Language Society like cunnilingus? Because with one slip of the tongue you're in the ****"

Might be difficult to get places to print that on a hoodie right enough.

That would be the most heroic society ever created in the history of everything. If only... :frown:

As a GU society I expect it has to have a constitution. That should include the process for putting forward motions for a vote.

I will join this society to provide you with votes for a name change.

Do it for yourself. Do it for me. And do it to spite the careerist little ****s that want to be on the board in order to say on their CV that they were, and will now have to write something completely inappropriate.

The beer bar is awesome. No judgement here. I spent most of last year in the beer bar.

My Registration page says I owe £1820, AND have a past due balance of £1820. Should I be worried? I could have sworn I'd said SAAS was doing it all, and I thought I had completed registration..or do I go through "Make a payment" and it comes up with something SAAS-related after?
Mildly worried, as it says I've to pay in fewer than 15 days or something.

SAAS doesn't pay until like mid-November. MyCampus displayed the same last year.

I don't have this 15 day thing. Where do you see that?

If you go into My Registration and under "holds" it says "Charges Due Now 1-15 days" on mine. Although I found elsewhere a due date of the 16th of September.
Ah well, I won't worry until I get an angry e-mail or something.

Yeah I have that too. I wouldn't worry.

Fairdoes. I probably saw the exact same last year and forgot about it

I've only been here 3 weeks but already people leaving a bag on a study chair and then going off to the cafe in the library for 2 hours is starting to really piss me off.... think next time I'm going to stand and wait, and if it is any longer than ten minutes just move it onto the floor and take the space **badass**

Yes that's annoying, but 10 minutes is a bit unrealistic... if you've gone to the library at 9am, a 50-60 minute studybreak is perfectly acceptable around lunchtime! Don't see why someone who's slept in and strolls up at noon deserves a carefully selected spot.
(Although different to an extent with computers)
