Yes that's annoying, but 10 minutes is a bit unrealistic... if you've gone to the library at 9am, a 50-60 minute studybreak is perfectly acceptable around lunchtime! Don't see why someone who's slept in and strolls up at noon deserves a carefully selected spot.
(Although different to an extent with computers)

Trueee, maybe 10 minutes is a bit quick  still frustrating tho!!

Does anyone know how it works with taking outside courses in honours years? I'm in second year now and will probably be taking single honours English Lit. Dropped English Lang after first year and regret it a bit now

You can take up to 25% over your two honours years in an outside subject. Also Eng Lang does let you go straight to honours from first year under some circumstances if you put a good case forward.

Ah, that's great, thanks

Also it may be worth trying to swap to Eng Lang this year if you really regret dropping it (I'm not just saying this cos I originally applied for Eng Lit and now am doing an Eng Lang degree).

Haha, I think I'd probably want to do a joint honours with English Lit anyway  I did think about trying to swap from Comp Lit to English Lang, but I wasn't sure how difficult catching up would be.

Worth asking the department...didn't think Eng Lang was particularly hard last year!

Hmm, might just do that. I'd be dropping it for Comp Lit, which is currently responsible for me having two novels a week to read  If not this term, do you reckon I might be able to pick it up from 2B?

(Sorry for harassing you with questions!)

There wasn't much continuity between 2A and 2B so I don't see why not...best to email department...can't think who is head of undergrads, Jeremy Smith perhaps? and see what they suggest!

Cool, I'll look into it, thanks
In other news, I'm happy for Scotland to replace all seasons with Autumn if the weather is like it has been today and over the last week in general. Beats whatever passed for 'summer'. If open day-ers looked around campus today (especially with the dismal weather everywhere else), I reckon they'd have more applications than they knew what to do with.

I looked round when it was pissing it down, had to buy new shoes because my shoes got so wet and I still came to Glasgow :yep: mind you now I'm in Calgary it seems like I just like going to places which people count as having abysmal weather...maybe I just like the cold?! (Although still lovely and sunny here for now!)
I had a heinously bad pie in the QM today.

I don't really have anything else to say, except if I die from food poisoning I am going to haunt the **** out of them.

QM is ****e anyway.

You wash your dirty whore mouth out.
Original post by G8D
No. Both unions are ****e. They just harbour different breeds of ****.
(that's the c-word btw)

Aww. I wanted to guess.

I remember when you could go with a mate to the GU with twenty quid each and come out five hours later having drunk a bottle of vodka between you.

Know what the best thing is? THAT HASN'T CHANGED.

Both cater to a specific subset of people, and if you're in that mood then can be an awesome night. That said, I'm maybe a little past that now.
Original post by G8D
GU's subset is loud, arrogant, chanting rugby ****ers.
QM's is ego driven betas who need to belong that are perfectly happy to 'dance' in a half empty 'club' to ****ty music from the 'DJ' for the sole reason that it's the QM.
Though I'd suggest the worst thing about the unions is the elected volunteer staff. As with all student elected positions they've won a mini popularity contest which allows them to become ascended humanoids. :nopity:

The only thing of merit is the pint of magic.

DOWN WITH THE SRC!

I love how misanthropic you are. "ego driven betas" was a personal highlight. I don't understand wanting to be involved in student politics. Why not just yet a badge saying you're a lonely useless ****er with too much time on your hands?
Don't mind either union (although the beer bar is a ****ing dump).

Hate it when it's the run up to the elections though, who actually gives a ****?
Silly question about library checkouts but here goes.

I checked out a book from short loans and used it for a wee while. I left it on the table assuming one of the staff would pick it up and re-check (?) it back in on my behalf. However, I just checked and it says that I've still got it checked out..

What do?

In what kind of library do the staff run around after you like that
You need to check it back into the machines on Level 2, they say Short Loan returns or drop off or something. Then the machine tells you whether to put it on a shelf or put it into the drop box. If you can go find the book again great, otherwise you should probably tell one of the staff and they might be able to help. Just hope it's where you left it or somebody put it back on the shelf

I don't usually do it. After seeing loads of other people leaving books on tables I thought I should start being a lazy bugger and start doing the same.

I don't want a fine :frown:.
