If they don't like it they'll take another one, but I think they'll have a hard time caring.

Mine I'm hungover and have just been drenched by Glasgow weather...it's not a good look! However, only one more year to go of it (thank goodness!)

Trust me you'll be nervous for a wee while and that's absolutely normal but remember everyone else is in same situation and no one is scary! Soon it'll feel like home :yep:

I look forward to that, since I'll be there for the forseeable future it's a big thing to me! But you've really helped, thanking you :h: Now I can feel a little more excitement rather than dread about moving up next week ahaha.

No worries, I remember how terrified I was this time 3 years ago! And now it's very much home!
Does anyone know if 1st years get reading lists? And if so where I can find them for my particular course? It's getting pretty close to me moving up to Glasgow and I feel really unprepared in terms of course content and what I'll be learning, I'm going to be in life sciences (applied for neuroscience)

You'll get them in intro lectures at start of term, really no need to worry, they don't expect you to be prepped

There's no reading list for Life Sciences students. Most of first year is stuff you probably know/have heard of already, no need to worry.

If you are really that concerned, the lecture schedule from last year with learning objectives and recommended reading for biology 1A and 1B is here and I would assume that they won't have changed it much (http://www.lib.gla.ac.uk/media/media_274383_en.pdf).
Can anyone remind me if enrollment meetings are useful or pointless? Have a job interview, I can probably manage it but it would be a push. Can't remember what they involved anyway.

What date did term start in 2010?

11th September was start of freshers wasn't it?
Original post by G8D
I wasn't sure if it was the 13th or the 6th but I think 13th makes more sense.

So 20th was day one?

Yep think that sounds right :yep: pretty sure it wasn't as early as the 6th, I think I only got my offer around the end of August and would have been really freaking out!
Anyone fancy helping Glasgow out here? We have taken a bit of a hammering:

Can anyone tell me how the GPA works throughout a degree?
On a 5 year undergraduate masters (MEng) where the first two years don't count towards anything does it then get reset at the start of 3rd year or is it carried over?

I know this was 3 weeks ago, but if you're still interested... it gets reset in the sense that your final degree classification won't be affected by 1st and 2nd degree marks, but the marks remain on your internet record and as far as I know on your transcript. Though with a MEng it'll be superceded by your result from your Masters year - I know my brother never got an official 1st, 2.1, 2.2 or whatever from the Bachelor's part but rather got his Merit or whatever it was after Masters.

--

Anyone ever made a complaint about a course and actually had anything done about it? Doing a course this year that's an absolute joke, too late for me but want to know if there's a way of saving next year's lot :/

Had some changes put through, and we actually managed to persuade our department to scrap their plans to make both essays compulsory this year (rather than the chance to submit two with higher mark counting but only have to submit one)
Original post by G8D
It's unlikely. Most of my courses have had some sort of questionnaire at the end of the year (in which complaints appear to be ignored) and obviously the SRC can't help you.

English? I have a friend who was quite excited about that

Shame, it's so abysmal that I get irritated just thinking about it. It's the kind of course which is so irredeemable, they should just cancel it. Apparently it got *loads* of complaints last year, so I figured they might have done something, but no such luck!

English language :yep:

Hmmm no idea then.
I'm sorry to post when the last one was January but since this thread has been going so long I hope it's all right. I was just wondering if anybody had experience of the appeals process? It's not so much the grade I received (though I am gutted) but some of the feedback was just ridiculous and I don't want to let is pass without arguing my side a little. Going by the Senate office's page about it, it looks like it can be done in person - I'm on my 3rd term abroad now but I'm so unhappy about this I'd happily come home for a bit to sort it. The only thing is, there are only 2 teachers on the course and I'd really, really like a third party to have a look at my own justification, or at least look at my essay. I'm sending off an e-mail to the advice centre now, but does anyone have any clue how it actually happens in practice?
I'm sure this has been answered multiple times in the thread, but how lenient is Glasgow on not meeting offers when it comes to a social science course?

It really depends on how many people have applied to the course that year and how far away from the offer you were
